TO:
The Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM:
Susan Simpson, Cultural and Human Services Director
DATE:
2/23/2011
RE:
Resolution to Approve Sponsorship of the 4th Annual Sunny Isles Beach
Offshore Powerboat Race 2011
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission consider the attached resolution to
approve sponsorship of the 4th Annual Sunny Isles Beach Offshore Powerboat Race
2011 in the amount of Forty Thousand Dollars ($40,000.00).
REASONS:
In 2008 the City produced an offshore powerboat race. Each year the race event has
grown. The 20 I 0 race, the most successful to date, with over 30 race teams included one
international racer and is expected to attract more this year. The race event provides for
local, national, and international media attention showcasing Sunny Isles Beach as an
oceanside destination with two televised shows aired in the United States and Qatar.
This event attracts race teams, their families and spectators that stay in Sunny Isles Beach
hotels and contribute to the local economy.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Offshore Events LLC has requested an additional $25,000.00 for this year's race event to
hire a dedicated event producer and a safety coordinator. The additional $25,000.00 is
not budgeted and would need to be funded through the contingency fund.
FUNDING SOURCE:
$40,000.00 is budgeted and available in the Special Events Account, account number
10.572.5574.
