Our company, headquartercd in Birmingham, Alabama, is the successor to the Thomas C. Brasfield Company, a general contractor operating as a sole proprietor from 1921. Miller Gorrie purchased the company's construction assets in 1964. Hc changed the name to Brasfield & Gorrie in 1967 and moved the headquarters to its present location in Birmingham. In the early years, the new company continued within the Brasfield niche of small commercial and remodeling projccts. As activity incrcascd, the emphasis was shifted to larger commcrcial, institutional and industrial projects, capitalizing on the motivation and experience of the ncw ownership. Brasfield & Gorric's growth was accelcrated in 1984 by the opening of full-service offices in Atlanta and Orlando. The company organization was dccentralized and six operating divisions were established, each serving as a profit center. Full-scrvice offices wcrc established in Ralcigh and Nashville in 1998. In 2007, Brasfield & Gorric opened thc Jacksonville, Florida officc. Our company has grown tremendously since 1964. Brasficld & Gorrie's volumc has grown from $250,000 to $2.1 billion. Our growth has cnabled us to work with many diffcrcnt clients and markets. Brasfield & Gorrie has ranked in ENR's top 40 general contractors in the world over the last six years. We have built over 330 parking garages with 275,000 parking spaces over the past 40 years. We havc a strong client base throughout the southeastern United Statcs and are currently building projects in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. FIRM OWNERSHIP Brasfield & Gorrie is a limited liability corporation incorporated in Delawarc in 1996. The company has two classes of stock, voting and non-voting. The voting stock is owned entirely by the original stockholders of Brasfield & Gorric, Inc. and Brasfield & Gorrie General Contractor, Inc. and represents YYo of the ownership of thc ncw company. The non-voting stock is owned by new stockholders selected from the managers within thc company and represents 97% of thc company's ownership. Thcre arc no anticipated changes in the ownership or corporate structure at this time. All owners of Brasfield & Gorrie are actively involved in the company's day- to-day operations. Evidence of capabilities for construction scheduling, matcrial procurement, and assurance that plans, spccifications, and schedules arc met. Schedulc control is a major component of cost control, as cxtended job schedules have a major cost impact. We pride ourselves on the ability to move a project along fast, and we use a variety of techniques, including CPM and sophisticated bar chart methods, to facilitate this proccss. The following proccdures will be undertaken to cstablish and control the project schedule: ~ Develop a time scaled precedence type bar chart schedule in both preliminary and final form, in conjunction with the City of Sunny Isles Beach and/or the architects and all subcontractors. Ample time will be provided for review and reevaluation of preliminary and final drafts of thc schedule. ~ Develop detailed near-term schedules on a bi- weekly basis to monitor construction activities and to reschedule as required those activities anticipated within the next four-to-six-week period. ~ Conduct project coordination meetings throughout the construction period to evaluate construction progress relative to the overall project schedule. These meetings will include Brasfield & Gorrie personnel, City of Sunny Isles Beach and all active or near active subcontractors. The control of the schedule is thc joint responsibility of the project manager and the superintendent. PROCU REM ENT For material and subcontract items, Brasficld & Gorrie will obtain bid quotations from a minimum of three qualified contractors or vendors. Thesc bids will bc received, analyzed and a recommendation for award will bc made to the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Upon award of each work activity, we will issue a subcontract or material purchase order that ensures compliance with all applicable terms and conditions of the project, including bonding and insurance. COST CONTROL Effective cost control requires the understanding and knowledge of what costs should bc. We pride oursclves on having excellent estimating capability. Our staff is available to support thc project team assigned to your projcct. Brasfield & Gorrie continuously monitors construction costs through the following individual computer rcports: ~ Labor Cost Report ~ Labor Projcctions ~ Matcrial and Subcontractor Buyout ~ Matcrial and Subcontractor Cost Rcport > Monthly Projections ~ Payment and Rctainage Report In addition, our Job Estimatc and Job Edit rcports monitor estimated and currcnt contract amounts and change orders. 1.9. A statement of experience summarizing projects constructed under a similar development process and a summary of what the Firm can "bring to the table" for the benefit of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Our ability to self-perform givcs us superior control over cost, schedule, quality and safety. The amount of work we self-perform can range from 5% to 95%, depending on the type of construction. On heavy concrete work we typically self-perform 50% to 95%; on commercial or institutional construction we generally self-perform 10% to 35% of the work. By self-performing work that many of our competitors must subcontract, we arc able to eliminatc an additional markup, thereby reducing project costs for the owner. When a substantial portion of the work is performed by our own forces, we can monitor the schedulc more accuratcly and make labor adjustmcnts more rapidly than can be done through secondary contractors. This oftcn accelerates project completion. Also, through self-performance, wc . have direct control of the quality of workmanship and the safcty of thc workplace. Brasfield & Gorrie has the ability to self-pcrform the following: ~ Foundation and relatcd excavation ~ Concretc structure ~ Light framing and miscellancous iron ~ Rough carpentry, layout, engineering ~ Finished carpentry, millwork ~ Specialties 1.10. A statement addrcssing the Firm's prcsent and projected workload and how this Project will be scheduled within that workload. Brasficld & Gorric is expected to do approximately $2 billion for 2009 company wide, $400 million out of our Florida Regional office. In 2010, Brasfield & Gorrie is currently preparing for a slowdown in the construction markct in 2010 but our backlog is still cxtremely strong. This project would work perfectly with the proposed project team members as well as the South region. 1.11. Third Party evidence that thc Firm has thc rcquired liccnse, insurancc, and financial and bonding capabilities necessary to fulfill their responsibiIitics for this Projcct.
