A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RESULTS OF
THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2011, ON A
PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CITY CHARTER; PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, the City of Sunny Isles Beach held a Special
Election on a proposed Amendment to the City Charter; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to accept the results of the Special Election held
on May 24,2011.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Accept Results of Special Election. The City Commission of the City of Sunny
Isles Beach hereby accepts the results of the Special Election held on May 24, 2011, as follows:
1. Require Persons Runnine: from a Particular Residential Area be a
Resident of the Residential Area Continuouslv for at Least One Year
Prior to Oualifvine:
The City Charter currently provides that a person running from a particular
residential area be a resident of that area at the time of qualifying. It is
proposed that the Charter be amended to require a person running from a
particular residential area to be a resident of that area continuously for at least
one year prior to qualifying.
Shall the above described amendment be adopted?

Section 2.

Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon

Resolution Accepting the Results of the Special Election Held on May
24,2011 on a Proposed Amendment to the City Charter
RECOMMENDATION:
It is requested that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution that accepts the
results of the Special Election held on May 24, 2011.
REASONS:
Currently the City Charter provides that a person running from a particular residential
area be a resident of that area at the time of qualifying. A Special Election was held on
Tuesday, May 24, 2011 on an amendment to the City Charter by proposing a requirement
that a person running from a particular residential area be a resident of that area
continuously for at least one year prior to qualifying.
The attached Resolution accepts the results of that Special Election as follows: 539 Yes,
292 No.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Ordinance amending the Charter and City Code is part of this agenda for First
Reading, Item 7 A.
