A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING
THE CHIEF OF POLICE, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
COMPREHENSIVE CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1984 TO
EXPEND UP TO THIRTY -FOUR THOUSAND NINE
HUNDRED FORTY-THREE DOLLARS ($34,943.00) FROM
THE FEDERAL FORFEITURE (DOJ) FUNDS FOR THE
PURCHASE OF A LIGHTNING PREDICTION AND
WARNING SYSTEM, AND SURVEILLANCE
CAMERASIEQUIPMENT FOR HERITAGE PARK;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, the City
and its Police Department are authorized to expend forfeiture funds from the established Department
of Justice (DOJ) federal forfeiture account, for the approved programs or purchases intended to
enhance law enforcement purposes; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984, upon the
request of the Chief of Police to the governing body of a municipality, federally forfeited funds may
be expended if accompanied by written certification that the request complies with the provisions of
the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has submitted a request for the expenditure of up to Thirty-
Four Thousand Nine Hundred Forty-Three Dollars ($34,943.00) in federally forfeited funds in
compliance with the aforementioned.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Expenditure of Federallv Forfeited Monies. Based on the attached certification, the
Chief of Police is hereby authorized to spend up to $34,943.00 from the established Department of
Justice (DOJ) federal forfeitures account for the purchase of a Lightning Prediction and Warning
System in the amount of $17,925.00, and surveillance cameras/equipment (Amendment) in the
amount of$17,018.00, for Heritage Park.
Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of June 2011.

I, Fred A. Maas, certify that pursuant to the Florida State Statute 932.0755 sec
(4) (a) and (4) (b), the above listed items meet the guidelines of purchase for law
enforcement purposes which include defraying the cost of protracted or complex
investigation, or providing for crime prevention, community policing projects.

Approval to Expend Partial Forfeiture (DOJ) Funds for Public
Safety Equipment (Surveillance Cameras and Lighting Prediction &
Warning System) in an amount not to exceed $34,943.00
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the expenditure of partial
Federal (DOJ) Forfeiture Funds, previously awarded to the Police Department as
the results of investigative participation in forfeiture and seizure cases. These
funds are permissible by laws to be spent for approved community policing
events and other law enforcement activities. It is requested that we be permitted
to utilize up to $34,943.00 of said funds on deposit for such purpose.
REASONS:
The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department actively participates in and sponsors
approved events, activities, and scholarship programs, etc., designed for
enhancing community policing events, public safety equipment and law
enforcement relationships.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
One of the benefits of participating in and providing personnel into high intensity
narcotics investigations is the sharing of confiscated proceeds for the continued
enhancement of relationships between law enforcement and our community.
These specific funds will be utilize to install a Lighting Prediction & Warning
System and. a multi-camera surveillance system in our newly built Heritage
Community.Park.
