Home My WebLink AboutReso 2011-1751 RESOLUTION NO. 2011- 1,51 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "PRESTIGE CULTURAL SERIES AT BISCAYNE BAY CAMPUS 2011-2012" PROGRAM, AND AUTHORIZING A CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE BISCA YNE BAY CAMPUS OF FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FlU), IN THE AMOUNT OF THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($3,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is committed in participating and informing its residents of cultural events and activities taking place in and around our community; and WHEREAS, the Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) of Florida International University (FlU) has invited the City to become a co-partner in the FlU Prestige Cultural Series at BBC 2011 - 2012 to engage our community in outstanding cultural experiences in the educational setting of the Biscayne Bay Campus; and WHEREAS, the Prestige Cultural Series at BBC will include five events: 1) a Big Band Concert at BBC; 2) French Grand Opera Arias at Sunny Isles Beach; 3) Songs of Love Choral Concert at BBC; 4) a Gourmet Wine & Food Pairing Luncheon with FlU's Latin Jazz Band at BBC; and 5) a Musical Theater Revue at BBC; and WHEREAS, the partnership between the City and FlU is mutually beneficial to our residents and visitors, and it can be incorporated into the City's existing Cultural Events Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Partnership. The City Commission hereby approves the partnership between the City and Florida International University (FlU). Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Commission directs the City Manager to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution, which includes but is not limited to donating $3,000.00 to Biscayne Bay Campus of FlU for the Prestige Cultural Series at BBC 2011 - 2012. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of July 2011. We continue to offer quality public education to over 8,000 students, many who live within a 25 mile radius of the campus. We also have many other amenities available to our community neighbors - an extensive research library, recreation by the bay, lifelong learning classes, beautiful bike paths, and engaging lectures and speakers. Your citizens have been loyal attendees to our cultural series in the past. We plan to invite everyone back, as well as welcoming other arts lovers from your fair village. REASONS: The Ctiy desires to provide residents and visitors with a variety of culturally rich events that are both affordable and convenient. This can be accomplished through support of this program with FlU that will inlcude 5 events as follows: Big Band Concert, French Grand Opera Arias, Songs of Love Choral Concert, A Gourmet Wine and Food Pairing Luncheon with FlU's Latin Jazz Band, and A Musical Theater Revue. More detailed information about each event is included in the attached proposal. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The French Grand Opera Arias will be presented in Sunny Isles Beach as one of the Four Seasons Cultural Series performances.
