A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING
A CONTRIBUTION IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00) TO CO-HOST AN
OPENING EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2011 AT BELLA
VISTA BAY PARK FOR THE ANNUAL DRAGON BOAT
RACE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO
ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has a tradition of participating and assisting
in various programs of interest and benefit to its residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, the United Chinese Association of Florida are hosting the annual Dragon
Boat Race at Haulover Park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach has been selected as the host site for this
international event attracting guests and dignitaries who stay in Sunny Isles Beach hotels and
support the local economy; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to sponsor the Opening Event on Saturday,
September 24, 2011 at Bella Vista Bay Park, by contributing up to One Thousand Dollars
($1,000.00) plus minimal in-kind services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a contribution
of up to One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) plus in-kind services to host the Opening Event on
Saturday, September 24,2011 at Bella Vista Bay Park for the annual Dragon Boat Race.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of September 2011.

Approval to Sponsor the Annual Dragon Boat Race with an Opening
Event
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached resolution to provide
financing of up to $1,000 plus minimal in-kind services to co-host an Opening Event on
Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Bella Vista Bay Park for the annual Dragon Boat Race
hosted by the United Chinese Association of Florida.
REASONS:
The United Chinese Association of Florida annually hosts the Dragon Boat Races at
Haulover Park. This internationally celebrated event attracts guests and dignitaries who
stay in Sunny Isles Beach hotels and support the local economy. It is an honor to be
selected as the host site for this international event with an Opening Event to be held on
Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Bella Vista Bay Park.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding is available for this item in the General Fund through the City Commission's
Donation budget, Account Number 10.511.5490.
