A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE PURCHASE
OF A 2011 FORD F550 BUCKET TRUCK FROM AL TEC
INDUSTRIES, INC. PURSUANT TO NATIONAL JOINT POWERS
ALLIANCE (NJPA) CONTRACT NO. 060311, IN AN AMOUNT
NOT TO EXCEED EIGHTY-TWO THOUSAND EIGHTEEN
DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS ($82,018.50), ATTACHED
HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City is desirous of maintaining the beauty of the City through
specialized projects requiring the use of a large-capacity bucket truck; and
WHEREAS, the City's 2008 City Ford F550 Bucket Truck sustained significant damage
due to an accident and cannot be used for its intended purpose; and
WHEREAS, City Staff determined that due to the costs associated with the truck repairs
and downtime, that the purchase of a new truck to be placed into service in December 2011 is in
the best interest of the City; and
WHEREAS, Altec Industries, Inc. (" Altec "), a leading provider of top of the line bucket
trucks, has advised that they have a contract under National Joint Powers Alliance (NJP A)
Contract No. 060311; and
WHEREAS, Section 62-13 of the City Code states that purchases made under
competitive bids with other governmental agencies, state general service administration contracts,
or federal, county or other governmental contracts are exempt from the bidding requirement; and
WHEREAS, Altec has submitted a proposal for a 2011 Ford F550 Bucket Truck, in an
amount not to exceed Eighty-Two Thousand Eighteen Dollars and Fifty Cents ($82,018.50),
attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Ratify Approval of Purchase. The City Commission hereby ratifies the purchase of
a Bucket Truck, in an amount not to exceed Eighty-Two Thousand Eighteen Dollars and Fifty
Cents ($82,018.50), attached hereto as Exhibit "A".
Section 2. Authorization of the City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do
all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.

Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of December 2011.

Purchase of a 2011 Ford F550 Bucket Truck
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Commission ratify the purchase from Altec Industries, Inc. of
a 2011 Ford F550 Bucket Truck through the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA)
contract No. 060311in an amount not to exceed $82,018.50.
REASONS:
On 9-27-11, the 2008 City Ford F550 bucket truck sustained significant damage due to
an accident. As a result, the truck cannot be used for its intended purpose. Below is a
listing of the approximate costs for repairs and continued operation:
l.Estimated cost of repairs by Altec and body shop:$40,607.04
2.Estimated time of repairs:up to 9 months (the boom fabrication is approximately 6
months).
3.Cost for rental during repairs:up to $18,000.00 (at $2,000.00/month); Rental costs are
not reimbursable under the current terms of the insurance.
An insurance check in the amount of $40,069.13 has been issued to the City for
damages.City staff determined that due to the costs associated with the truck repairs and
downtime (estimated at $58,607.04) that the purchase of a new truck to be placed into
service in December of 20 11 is in the best interest of the City.
