A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, DENYING THE REQUEST TO
NEGOTIATE WITH OFFSHORE EVENTS, LLC, FOR OFF-SHORE
POWERBOAT RACES IN SUNNY ISLES BEACH; AUTHORIZING
THE CITY ATTORNEY AND CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL
THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Offshore Events, LLC produces and promotes the sport of Offshore Powerboat
Racing and the individuals, firms corporations and other business entities who pmiicipate therein and
is an organization formed for the purposes of the promotion, development, organization and
operation of powerboat racing events under the name of Offshore Events, LLC; and
WHEREAS, Offshore Events, LLC and the City have attempted to enter into a mutually
beneficial agreement whereby Offshore Events shall produce an offshore race event of no less than 4
days of activities including one day of sanctioned offshore powerboat races; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission does not wish for the City Manager to enter into further
negotiations with Offshore Events LLC for off-shore powerboat races in the City.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Authorization of City Manager. The City Commission hereby denies the request to
negotiate with Offshore Events LLC for Off-Shore powerboat races in the City.
Section 2. Authorization of City Attorney and City Manager. The City Attorney and City
Manager are hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution will become effective upon adoption.

Negotiations with Offshore Events LLC regarding an Offshore Powerboat
Race 2012
RECOMMENDATION:
The attached resolution is before you for your consideration to authorize the City
Manager to negotiate with Offshore Events LLC to produce an Offshore Powerboat Race
for the City during the anniversary weekend of June 14 - 17,2012.
REASONS:
For the past 3 years the City has offered an offshore powerboat race as an attraction at the
City's anniversary event. This year Offshore Events LLC is proposing a smaller event for
your consideration that will not provide the same return on investment that the City has
realized in years past.
With your approval, the City Manager will negotiate new terms with Offshore Events
LLC for a different type of race with new terms.
FUNDING SOURCE:
$40,000.00 was budgeted for this item in the General Fund, Special Events Account
number 10.572.5574.
