HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2012-1875RESOLUTION NO. 2012 - 1 S`7 S A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A SERVER, DATA STORAGE APPLIANCE, DESKTOP AND LAPTOP COMPUTERS FROM DELL, AND RENEWING AN ANNUAL MAINTENANCE SUPPORT AGREEMENT, FOR THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT, UNDER STATE OF FLORIDA CONTRACT #250 - 000 -09 -1, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIFTY -SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($56,500.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A "; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Information Technology (IT) infrastructure is the backbone of the City's core operations and as staff is assessing our current IT system, immediate concerns were identified and requires addressing such as the need to purchase a stand -alone management server for our networking infrastructure,--replacing the Police— Department's outdated mass- storage server, and replacement of aging, slow, and out -of- warranty computers; and WHEREAS, it was deemed that a replacement solution was required and the solution recommended will support the functions of the current technology and provide additional functionality; and WHEREAS, staff wishes to purchase server equipment and software from Dell to maintain the integrity of the City -wide IT infrastructure, and to renew an annual maintenance support agreement for the main data storage unit at Government Center; and WHEREAS, staff has requested a quote from Dell, a leader in the computer industry, for said computer servers, and other related hardware and software; and WHEREAS, Dell has provided a quote under the State of Florida Contract #250- 000 -09- 1 for the purchase of the server equipment, data storage appliance, other related hardware and software, and renewing the maintenance support agreement, in a total amount not to exceed Fifty -Six Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($56,500.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A "; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to purchase said server equipment and other related hardware and software from Dell, and offer to donate the old equipment to the Norman S. Edelcup /Sunny Isles Beach K -8 and if denied, surplus the equipment. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Authorize the Purchase. The City Commission hereby authorizes the purchase of server equipment, data storage appliance, other related hardware and software from Dell, and R2012- Dell Computer Purchase For IT Infrastructure Page I of 2 renewing the maintenance support agreement for the Information Technology Department, under State of Florida Contract #250- 000 -09 -1, in an amount not to exceed Fifty -Six Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($56,500.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A ". Section 2. Authorization of City Manager, The City Manager is hereby authorized to offer the old equipment to the Norman S. Edelcup /Sunny Isles Beach K -8, if denied, surplus the equipment, and to do all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. The City is in need to purchase a stand - alone, management server for our networking infrastructure. This addition will empower the Department to proactively identify, correct, and optimize network traffic and connectivity issues across our entire network. In addition, the Police Department's outdated mass - storage server requires frequent downtime due to maintenance and malfunction, thus disrupting a critical, 24/7 operation. This new proposed storage device requires minimum maintenance. However, when it does, the system will not be required to be "turned off' for maintenance and will allow for continuous operation. In addition, this server will increase storage capacity while providing continuous and reliable data replication. The City is in need to replace 25 aging, slow, and out -of- warranty computers, some which have been placed in service since November 2007 and August 2008.
