HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2012-1878 RESOLUTION NO. 2012-]ID.8 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN ALLOCATION FOR THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH SISTER CITY PROGRAM, IN AN AMOUNT OF THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($30,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is desirous of continuing to build its Sister City Program; and WHEREAS, Sister City relationships are developed to increase global cooperation at the municipal level, promoting cultural understanding and stimulating economic development; and -t- WHEREAS, the City is currently matched with Netanya, Israel and is now looking for acldi ti-clnal-S isterei ti es-to-j 0 in-wi th;-and WHEREAS, representatives from Taormina, Italy and Trouville, France will be visiting Sunny Isles Beach to meet with local representatives, learn about our City and determine if they would like to become Sister Cities with the City; and WHEREAS, representatives from the City of Sunny Isles Beach will also visit these two cities to determine if they are good matches for the City; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to approve an allocation in the amount of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) for the Sister City Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Approval of Allocation. The City Commission hereby approves an allocation in an amount of Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00) for the City's Sister City Program. Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all things necessary to effectuate the terms of this resolution. Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption. Cohen, City Manager DATE: 3/1512012 RE: Allocation for Sister City Program RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution funding our Sister City program REASONS: The City is desirous of continuing to build on its Sister City Program. Sister City programs increase global cooperation, promote cultural understanding, and stimulate economic development. The City is currently matched with Netanya, Israel and is now looking for additional Sister Cities to join with. Representatives from Taormina, Italy and Trouville, France will be visiting Sunny Isles Beach to meet with local representatives, learn about our city and determine if they would like to become Sister Cities with us. Representatives from our city will also visit these two cities to determine if they are good matches for us. The approximate cost of each trip should not exceed $10,000, for a total not to exceed of $30,000.
