A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE USE OF
CERT AIN RESOURCES FOR THE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP TRUST
FUND ANNUAL DINNER, IN AN AMOUNT OF THREE THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($3,000.00); AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO
ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION:
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission has made a strong commitment to provide
educational opportunities to the youth of the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City's commitment to education is demonstrated by the partnership
between the City and the School Board of Miami-Dade County to create the Norman S. Edelcup
Sunny Isles Beach K-8; and
WHEREAS, on June 17, 2010 via Resolution No. 2010-1574, the City Commission
created a College Scholarship Program; and
WHEREAS, the City has committed to supporting the College Scholarship Trust Fund
for deserving youth from Sunny Isles Beach, of which the scholarships are awarded at an annual
dinner event; and
WHEREAS, the City currently has a $15,000 credit with a local florist resulting from a
settlement agreement between the florist and the City, and is now being asked to use up to Three
Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) of its credit with the florist to provide flowers for the College
Scholarship Trust Fund Annual Dinner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Use of Certain Resources. The City Commission hereby approves the
use of a credit of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00) with a local florist to provide flowers for
the College Scholarship Trust Fund Annual Dinner.
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3.
Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of March 2012.

RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the resolution authorizing the use of city resources for the College Scholarship Trust
Fund Annual Dinner
REASONS:
The City has committed to supporting the College Scholarship Trust Fund for deserving
youth from Sunny Isles Beach. The scholarships are awarded at an annual dinner event.
The City is being asked to help with the expenses for the dinner in a novel manner.
The City currently has a $15,000 credit with a local florist resulting from a settlement
agreement between the florist and the City. The City is now being asked to use up to
$3,000 of its credit with the florist to provide flowers for the scholarship dinner.
