HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2012-1881RESOLUTION NO. 2012 - jb A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF SERVER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE FROM UNITRENDS, INC. FOR THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT, UNDER MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES RFP NO. 3658, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($30,000.00), ATTACHED HERETO AS EXHIBIT "A"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Information Technology (IT) infrastructure is the backbone of the City's core operations and as staff is assessing our current IT system, immediate concerns were identified and required addressing such as a new tapeless backup system; and WHEREAS, the City's existing tape backup system was aging, slow, and difficult to maintain, directly impacting staff's ability to access critical data and provide reliable computer services, it was deemed that a replacement solution was required; and WHEREAS, staff wishes to purchase server equipment and software from Unitrends, Inc. that will greatly reduce downtime when restoring data from failed servers from two (2) days to about a few hours; and WHEREAS, Staff has requested a quote from Unitrends, Inc, for said computer server, and other related hardware and software; and WHEREAS, Dell has provided a quote under the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services Request for Proposal No. 3658 for the purchase of the server equipment and other related software, in a total amount not to exceed Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A "; and WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach desires to purchase said server equipment and other related software from Unitrends, Inc. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Authorization for Purchase. The City Commission hereby authorizes the purchase of server equipment and other related software from Unitreds, Inc. for the Information Technology Department, under the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services Request for Proposal No. 3658, in an amount not to exceed Thirty Thousand Dollars ($30,000.00), attached hereto as Exhibit "A ". RECOMMENDATION: Staff is recommending Commission approve the attached resolution authorizing the purchase of a Backup and Storage Server appliance from Unitrends in an amount not to exceed $30,000. REASONS: As staff is assessing our current IT system, immediate concerns were identified and required addressing such as a new tapeless backup system. The City's existing tape backup system wis aging, slow, and very difficult to maintain. After several complicated restore jobs that directly impacted the staff's ability to provide reliable computer services to the City, IT deemed it necessary to find a solution. Existing tape backup equipment was placed into service in 2007. The Unitrends Recovery Appliance will provide hour -by -hour continuous, deduplicated, tapeless backups for Government Center and Police Department servers, the current tape system backups once a day. The new backup appliance being proposed will greatly reduce downtime when restoring data from failed servers from two days to a few hours.
