HomeMy WebLinkAboutHPB Reso 2005-0345 RESOLUTION 2005 -0a_ A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY FLORIDA, RECOMMENDING TO COMMISSION THE RE- DESIGNATION ISLES BEACH PIER, LOCATED AT AVENUE, AS AN INDIVIDUAL F PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. PRESERVATION ISLES BEACH, THE CITY OF THE SUNNY 16701 COLLINS [ISTORIC SITE; WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 171 -3, Code of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, the Historic Preservation Board has been empowered to recommend to the City Commission properties for designation as historic sites and landmarks; and WHEREAS, the Sunny Isles Beach Pier located at 16701 Collins Avenue is one of the oldest remaining structures of its kind in Miami -Dade County and has been a focal point of the Sunny Isles Beach community since its construction in 1936; and WHEREAS, on January 21, 1982, the Miami -Dade County Historic Preservation Board designated the Sunny Isles Beach Pier as an historic site; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 171 -4, the City of Sunny Isles Beach Historic Preservation Board has conducted a public meeting to determine whether the Sunny Isles Beach Pier meets the criteria outlined in the ordinance and would like to recommend to the City Commission that the pier be re- designated as an historic site; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Authorization of the Historic Preservation Board. The Historic Preservation Board recommends that the City Commission re- designates the Sunny Isles Beach Pier as an individual historic site pursuant to Ordinance No. 2004 -197. Section 2. Hines, City Clerk Pursuant to Section 171 -3 of the Code of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, the City's Historic Preservation Board is authorized to recommend to the City Commission properties for designation as historic landmarks and historic landmark districts. On today's agenda for your consideration is the re- designation of the Sunny Isles Beach Pier as an historic site for the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. Statement of Significance On January 21, 1982, the Miami -Dace County Historic Preservation Board designated the Sunny Isles Beach Pier as an historic site for Miami -Dade County. The Sunny Isles Beach Pier was originally constructed in 1936 by the Miami Fishing Pier Inc. The 1936 Pier was 887 feet long with a T- shaped head. In 1940 and 1945, additions were made to the Pier. A hurricane washed away the outer 400 feet of the Pier in 1947. In 1953, the end of the Pier was rebuilt and steel supports were added. Boundaries/Legal Description The Sunny Isles Beach Pier begins 76ft. N of NE Corner of Lot 36, Bella Vista PB 8 -128 the E ALG N/L of S lOB 149.23 ft. to POB N ELY 433.13 ft. E 328.63 ft. to East harbor line S 433.32 ft. to N/L of S10B produces the W 351.08 ft. to POB. Recommendation It is recommended that the Board consider re- designating the Sunny Isles Beach Pier as an historic site for the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.
