AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 22 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
BEACH ENTITLED "DEPARTMENTS "; PROVIDING FOR THE
RENAMING AND INTEGRATION OF CERTAIN CITY
DEPARTMENTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN
THE CODE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted Chapter 22 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach for the purpose of systematically and efficiently administering the operations of the City
of Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, City staff recently presented an updated reorganization plan to the City Commission
at a workshop held on January 26, 2012, with specific recommendations to improve operation efficiency,
provide higher levels of services where needed, and free up strategic time for leadership; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission subsequently approved the City's reorganizational plan at the
City Commission meeting held on February 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, this approved reorganization plan includes the renaming and integration of certain
City departments to accomplish the aforementioned objectives.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 22 -1 is hereby amended as follows:
For the purpose of systematically and efficiently administering the operations of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach, the following departments of government within the City are hereby
established:
1. Office of the City Manager
2. Finanee Bepar4n3e Department of Finance
3. Office of the City Attorney
4. Office of the City Clerk
5. planning and Zoning DepaAmen Department of Community Development
6. BuildingBepai4ment
7. Admi istf.Aiye SerViees n
8. Police Department

Section 2. Severability. If any section, subsection, clause or provision of this Ordinance is declared
invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder shall not be affected by such
invalidity.
Section 3. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are
hereby repealed.
Section 4. Inclusion in the Code. It is the intention of the City Commission, and it is hereby ordained
that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and made a part of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Code;
that the sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or re- lettered to accomplish such intentions; and that
the word "Ordinance" shall be changed to "Section" or other appropriate word.
Section 5. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall become effective ten days after adoption on second
reading.

Renaming of Departments
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the renaming of departments
REASONS:
The naming of departments is an offcial action of the City Commission and becomes part
of the City Code. The last time departments were officially named in this manner was in
2006. Since that time, departments have been merged and/or eliminated. In order to both
bring our naming protocol up to date and to change the names of some departments to
better reflect what they do, the following list of departments, which were included in the
City Reorganization Plan, are recommended for adoption.

Department of Public Works
Department of Cultural and Community Services
Department of Human Resources
Office of the City Manager
Office of the City Attorney
Office of the City Clerk
Police Department
