A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN INCREASE
IN SPENDING AUTHORITY FOR ADDITIONAL INSURANCE
COVERAGE WITH BROWN & BROWN / PREFERRED
GOVERNMENT INSURANCE TRUST (PGIT) FOR FISCAL YEAR
2016/2017, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE HUNDRED
FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($150,000.00); AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on September 15, 2016 via Resolution No. 2016-2579, the City
Commission entered into an Agreement with Brown & Brown/Preferred Government Insurance
Trust (PGIT) as the City's provider for the Package Policy and Workers Compensation, and
miscellaneous insurances, for a one-year period of October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017,
in an amount not to exceed One Million Dollars ($1,000,000.00); and
WHEREAS, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is in need of additional insurance coverage
for Gateway Park and increases due to a Workers Compensation audit; and
WHEREAS, the City recommends approval to increase the spending authority for
additional insurance coverage with Brown & Brown/Preferred Governmental Insurance Trust
(PGIT) related to Gateway Park and increases due to a Workers Compensation audit, in an
amount not to exceed One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00), which includes a
contingency in the amount of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) for any additional
unforeseen coverage needed for the remainder of the 2016-2017 Fiscal Year, for a total amount
not to exceed One Million One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($1,150,000.00).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Increase in Spending Authority. The City Commission hereby
approves an increase in spending authority for additional insurance coverage with Brown &
Brown/Preferred Government Insurance Trust (PGIT) related to Gateway Park, increases due to
a Workers Compensation audit, and contingencies, in an amount not to exceed One Hundred
Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00).
Section 2. Authorization of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
other things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

Approving Additional Insurance Coverage with Brown&
RE: Brown/Preferred Government Insurance Government
Insurance Trust
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
REASONS:
On September 15, 2016 via Resolution No. 2016-2579 the City
Commission approved the renewal of insurance coverage with Brown &
Brown/Preferred Government Insurance Trust (PGIT) in an amount not
to exceed $1,000,000.00. Since that approval, Gateway Park was
completed and opened creating the need for property insurance
coverage in an amount of $120,000.00. Additionally, a Workers'
Compensation audit was performed and it was determined that there is
an additional premium due of$15,000.00.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Spending authority is being requested in an amount not to exceed
$150,000.00, which includes a contingency amount of $15,000.00 for
any additional unforeseen coverage needed for the remainder of the
2016-2017 fiscal year.
FUNDING SOURCE:
98
Funding is available in the 2-5132 (Risk Management) operating
accounts for the Commercial Package Policy and funding is available in
each department's 424000 (Workers Compensation Insurance)
account for the Workers Compensation Policy.
