A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A CHARITABLE
CONTRIBUTION TO THE SUNNY ISLES BEACH K -8 TRUST FUND
FOR THE FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (FIU) FIRST
GENERATION COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, IN AN
AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00); AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION: PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission has made a strong commitment to provide
educational opportunities to the youth of the City of Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City's commitment to education is demonstrated by the partnership
between the City and the School Board of Miami -Dade County to create the Norman S. Edelcup
Sunny Isles Beach K -8; and
WHEREAS, on December 15, 2011 via Resolution No. 2011 -1827, the City
Commission created a College Scholarship Program for high school students from the City of
Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to continue its commitment to education and wishes to
donate Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to the Sunny Isles Beach K -8 Trust Fund for the FIU
First Generation College Scholarship Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Approval of Contribution. The City Commission hereby approves a contribution
of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) to the Sunny Isles Beach K -8 Trust Fund for the FIU First
Generation College Scholarship Program.
Section 2. Authorization of Ci-y Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do all
things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of October 2012.

Contribution to the Sunny Isles Beach K -8 Trust for the First Generation
College Scholarship Program
RECOMMENDATION:
Attached for your consideration is a resolution contributing $5,000.00 to the Sunny Isles Beach
K -8 Trust for the College Scholarship Program.
REASONS:
To continue the City's commitment to education, the attached resolution authorizes a charitable
contribution of $5,000.00 to the Sunny Isles Beach K -8 Trust Fund for the FIU First Generation
College Scholarship Program.
The purpose of remitting the funds to the Trust Fund is due to the matching funds benefit the
School receives from the Federal Government for contribution made by not - for - profit
organizations.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this contribution is available in the General Fund through the City Commission's
Donation budget, Account Number 10.511.5490.
