RFP#17-04-01 v America BACKGROUND The City of Sunny Isles Beach is requesting a company to furnish, install and maintain (two) 2 interactive touchscreen kiosks including software implementation and license, configuration, maintenance, training and professional services support at various locations on City property. The objective of this project is to provide residents and visitors with an enhanced experience of the City by providing information about current and upcoming events, park locations, city shuttle service, county bus service, wayfinding directions, beach conditions, weather, traffic, date, time and any other additional City facts that enlightens the user stay in Sunny Isles Beach. For the City to continue to satisfy current residents and visitors alike, the City wishes to provide a more experiential option for those people. CHK America is uniquely qualified to design the UX for the City. Like the reputation enjoyed by Sunny Isles Beach, CHK is recognized by the wayfinding 411 and transit industry's most respected transit agencies to be the premier provider of interactive interfaces. The interface is essentially an exercise in wayfinding. That is providing the user with the information that they need or want in a clean, understandable, logical manner. Technology is how we deliver the information but technology is not the answer. The User Interface design will determine the success of the City's mission. Our philosophy is to put ourselves in the position of a new user looking to make sense of a large quantity of information in a city that might be unfamiliar to them. This philosophy has helped us to successfully design and produce award-winning UX and wayfinding strategies for the most successful and high tourist attraction cities in the world including Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Santa Barbara. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS CHK America is the leading provider of static and interactive wayfinding solutions to the public transportation industry. CHK America has been providing static wayfinding solutions to public transportation agencies for over 17 years. Because we come from a traditional wayfinding background, we have the most experience in communicating complex service information to the customer. We combine those skills with the ability to integrate that data into a variety of wayfinding mediums(such as static, interactive and mobile)to produce a unified messaging system. As stated previously,we consider this project to be a wayfinding effort. The fact that we are using an interactive kiosk to communicate the wayfinding information does not alter the nature of this project. Much like you would not want the manufacturer of canvas to do the painting of your portrait, you will not want a software developer designing a wayfinding interface. Canvas manufacturers are not artists and software engineers are not wayfinding designers. CHK America provides the canvas and the artistry because we have the skills and experience to do both. Discussed below are four projects that CHK America is currently involved with or has just completed. The projects involve designing the interface and coding for interactive wayfinding kiosks. These projects are representative of the work required by the City and will demonstrate our ability to develop an interactive solution that is extremely popular with the residents and visitors. The following pages provide a summary of four projects that demonstrate our ability to execute the scope of work as outlined in the RFP: 1. Santa Barbara 2. Las Vegas 3. Pittsburgh 4. Dallas May 9, 2017 Confidential page 5 of 32 Informational Touchscreen Kiosks and Software Services ® RFP#17-04-01 C HKAmeric Inc. REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS SANTA BARBARA Transit Center Interactive Kiosk CHK America launched its first ConnectPoint1M Interactive Kiosk at Santa Barbara's main transit Center. The transit center was the ideal location to launch our interactive product line due to its high volume of service, its physical layout and because of the large number of tourist that use the transit center on a daily basis. After three months at the transit center, Mel Deaile,Transit Center Supervisor had this to say: Lt "CHK America's ConnectPoint kiosk is extremely popular with residents and tourists. It • dramatically reduces the number of questions asked at our Customer Service windows, freeing staff to answer telephone calls and handle other responsibilities. The kiosk is an invaluable information tool for our customers." CHK America focused on the core areas of wayfinding information when we designed the User Interface. Those areas comprise the 3 core modules of information that are fundamentally necessary for effective decision making in a high cognitive load environment. 40 May 9, 2017 Confidential page 6 of 32 Informational Touchscreen Kiosks and Software Services = /' H RFP#170401 7,\7CHKAirs n'ca Ince REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS PITTSBURGH Interactive Kiosks Pittsburgh has deployed 5 Interactive kiosks. They are deployed at City rail stations downtown. Pittsburgh was a SmartCity finalist and they understand what people want. They know that the rail stations downtown are central points of ingress and egress for residents and tourists alike. And because the rail stations are easily identifiable, people unfamiliar with the city geography can find them easily as they have high visibility on street signage and are featured prominently in tourist guides. Like Las Vegas, the kiosks are extremely popular. So much so that Pittsburgh intends to deploy them outside the city center in coming months. • The average statistics for the most recent 30 days from a single kiosk is as follows: Wayfinding Map Inquiry: 1,205 Mass Transportation Inquiry: 10,197 Trip Plans: 596 ADA Interactions: 77 SMS/Emails sent to self: 59 Pittsburgh's mission is to become one of the nation's SmartCity examples. With that in mind, they are deploying other green, sustainable products from CHK America. Our E-Ink based digital signage platform in ideal for city wayfinding efforts and may be of interest to Sunny Isles Beach. 411 May 9, 2017 Confidential page 7 of 32 InformationalrTouchscreen Kiosks and Software Services : /'( r 7/ RFP#17-04-01 -is v\ r, 72'72.77v REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS LAS VEGAS Interactive Kiosks Similar to Sunny Isles Beach, Las Vegas started with(two)2 Interactive kiosks. They were deployed at the City's main transportation hubs. They felt this was the most useful place because of the high tourist and resident use of their mass transportation system. The impact was immediate. The popularity of the kiosks was overwhelming and prompted Las Vegas to explore adding kiosks at additional locations throughout the area. They are currently in the process of deploying 3 more. The statistics for the most recent 30 days is as follows: Wayfinding Map Inquiry: 5,094 Mass Transportation Inquiry: 15,782 Trip Plans: 2,878 ADA Interactions: 299 SMS/Emails sent to self: 161 The usage is phenomenal as can be seen by the interactive requests made to the kiosks. Some consider these to be the busiest, most used kiosks in the country. Dallas considers Love Field to be a primary point of entry to their city and as a result, wanted an interactive kiosk that would let their visitors explore their travel options prior to leaving the airport. CHK has developed programming for Dallas that is very similar to that requested by Sunny Isles Beach. Dallas required the following in addition to the standard modules that come with the ConnectPoint Interactive Kiosk. • Points of interest icons and information on the face of the wayfinding module • Points of Interest pre-programmed into the trip planning • App downloads directly from the kiosk • Advertising top screen and bottom bar On the next page are photos and screen shots of the Dallas Interactive Kiosk 411 May 9, 2017 Confidential page 9 of 32 • Informational Touchscreen:Kiosks and Software Services - rl ` ',I --- 4110 • RFP#17-04-01 r cexn»errIn , lC-'1:7hi . -mac DALLAS LOVE FIELD AIRPORT O — .
