A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING FLORIDA
CITY GOVERNMENT WEEK, OCTOBER 23-29, 2017, AND
ENCOURAGING ALL CITIZENS TO SUPPORT THE
CELEBRATION AND CORRESPONDING ACTIVITIES;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DO ALL THINGS
NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the
one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents; and
WHEREAS, municipal government provides services and programs that enhance
the quality of life for residents, making their city their home; and
WHEREAS, city government is administered for and by its citizens, and is
dependent upon public commitment to and understanding of its many responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, city government officials and employees share the responsibility to
pass along the understanding of public services and their benefits; and
WHEREAS, Florida City Government Week offers an important opportunity for
elected officials and city staff to spread the word to all citizens of Florida that they can
shape and influence this branch of government; and
WHEREAS, the Florida League of Cities and its member cities have joined
together to teach citizens about municipal government through a variety of activities.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Support for City Government Week. The City of Sunny Isles Beach
encourages all citizens, city government officials, officials at NSE/SIB K-8 School, and
employees to do everything possible to ensure that the week of October 23-29, 2017, is
recognized and celebrated as City Government Week, and encourage educational
partnerships between city government and schools, and to actively promote and sponsor
• "Florida City Government Week".
Section 2. Authority of City Manager. The City Manager is hereby authorized to do
all things necessary to effectuate this Resolution.
Section 3. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.

RECOM M ENDAT ION:
This Resolution is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
City Government Week provides an opportunity to recognize the
important role played by city government in our lives and the Florida
League of Cities and its member cities have joined together to teach
students and other citizens about municipal government through a
variety of different projects and information. Florida City Government
Week offers an important opportunity to convey to all the citizens of
Florida that they can shape and influence government policy through
their civic involvement.
The City of Sunny Isles Beach encourages all citizens, city government
officials and employees to do everything possible to ensure that the
week of October 20-26, 2013, is recognized and celebrated as City
Government Week, and encourage educational partnerships between
city government and schools, and to actively promote and sponsor
"Florida City Government Week."
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
