AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 22 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES
BEACH ENTITLED "DEPARTMENTS"; PROVIDING FOR THE
RENAMING AND SEPARATION OF CERTAIN CITY
DEPARTMENTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR REPEALER; PROVIDING FOR INCLUSION IN
THE CODE; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted Chapter 22 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach for the purpose of systematically and efficiently administering the operations of the City
of Sunny Isles Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends the renaming and separation of certain City
departments to improve operation efficiency, provide higher levels of services where needed, and free up
strategic time for leadership.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 22-1 is hereby amended as follows:
For the purpose of systematically and efficiently administering the operations of the City of
Sunny Isles Beach, the following departments of government within the City are hereby
established:
1. Office of the City Manager
2. Office of the City Attorney
3. Office of the City Clerk

5. Depafty ent of Community Deyei„r,,.,Building Department
6. Planning and Zoning Department
7. Code Compliance Department
8. Police Department

10. Cultural and Community Services Department

Section 2. Severability. If any section, subsection, clause or provision of this Ordinance is declared
invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder shall not be affected by such
invalidity.
Section 3. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith be and the same are

hereby repealed.
Section 4. Inclusion in the Code. It is the intention of the City Commission,and it is hereby ordained
that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and made a part of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Code;
that the sections of this Ordinance may be renumbered or re-lettered to accomplish such intentions;and that
the word "Ordinance" shall be changed to "Section" or other appropriate word.
Section 5. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall become effective ten days after adoption on second
reading.

PASSED AND ADOPTED on second reading the day of October 2017.

RE: Renaming and Separation of City Departments
RECOMMENDATION:
This ordinance is presented for your consideration.
REASONS:
The naming of departments is an official action of the City Commission
and becomes part of the City Code. The last time departments were
revised was in 2012. Since that time, departments have been
separated and/or eliminated. In order to both bring our naming protocol
up to date and to change the names of some departments to better
reflect what they do, the following list of departments are recommended
for adoption.
1. Office of the City Manager
2. Office of the City Attorney
3. Office of the City Clerk
4. Finance Department
5. Building Department
6. Planning and Zoning Department
7. Code Compliance Department
8. Police Department
9. Public Works Department
10. Cultural and Community Services Department
11. Human Resources Department
