Edelcup: The Television Production program at Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High Biscayne Bay Campus has compiled a set of short news segments about the City of Sunny Isles Beach. These segments were broadcasted on our weekly show, WSRK Shark News. We encourage our students to cover events and after school activities in the community to increase participation and awareness of the all the wonderful things happening in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. WSRK Shark News has been built from the ground up;within the last three years we have seen significant growth and a notable student interest in the field of television and photography. Our students have participated in district and state competitions with excellent results. This year we have accepted a new challenge by participating in the national Student Television Network Convention in Los Angeles, CA. Our students will engage in 28 different video contests, professional training sessions, and will meet internationally known television production guest speakers. The Student Television Network Convention sponsors include CNN, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Apple Computers,Adobe,Avid, and U.S. Education TV among others. This is a great opportunity for the students at WSRK Shark News to compete at the national level and add another incomparable educational opportunity. The total cost of this trip will be over$16,000. Our program has done several fundraisers to cover the cost but has fallen short from completing the full amount. We are asking for the financial assistance of the City of Sunny Isles Beach in this memorable learning experience. Any donation, sma or bi will be greatly appreciated.
