CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL OF MEMBERS <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Edelcup at 6:02 p.m., with the following officials <br />present: <br />Mayor Norman S. Edelcup <br />Vice Mayor Roslyn Brezin <br />Commissioner Gerry Goodman <br />Commissioner Danny Iglesias <br />Commissioner Lewis J. Thaler <br /> <br />Interim City Manager Fred Maas <br />City Attorney Hans Ottinot <br />Deputy City Clerk Priscilla Walker <br /> <br />2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE/INVOCATION <br />Action: Mayor Edelcup' s cousin Phyllis Locker led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and <br />Richard C. Schulman gave an invocation. <br /> <br />3. WELCOME BY MAYOR NORMAN S. EDELCUP <br />Action: Mayor Edelcup gave opening remarks. <br /> <br />4. NOMINA TION FOR CITY MANAGER'S POSITION <br />Action: Mayor Edelcup reported noting that the City had a Selection Committee chaired by <br />Senator Gwen Margolis and members included City Attorney Hans Ottinot, Mary Ann Eicke- <br />Shaw, Gary Brown the City Manager of North Miami Beach, and Bud Scholl. Mayor Edelcup <br />thanked the members for a very good and thorough job. He said that over 30 people applied <br />for the position and the Committee narrowed it down to three people, and that each <br />Commissioner had an opportunity to meet with each of the three people. <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup nominated Anthony "John" Szerlag as our new City Manager. He said that <br />Mr. Szerlag has been the City Manager of Troy, Michigan for the last six years and prior to <br />that he was the Assistant City Manager in Troy for the previous ten years. He noted that Troy <br />has a population of approximately 85,000 people with 34 square miles. Mayor Ede1cup also <br />noted that prior to him being with the City of Troy, he was the City Manager of Howell, <br />Michigan with a population of about 9,000, so that he has had experience with a large city as <br />well as with a small city. <br /> <br />Mayor Edelcup said that the Commission has been furnished with a copy of an outline of an <br />employment agreement and asked for the authority to complete that employment agreement in <br />accordance to the terms that are on that agreement and if anything should change, he would <br />
