summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting January 16. 2014 City of sunny Isles Beach. Florida
Mayor Edelcup said until further notice we will have a workshop on Tuesday preceding the
regularly scheduled Commission meeting for those of the Commission and public who
choose to attend, at which time no votes will ever be taken. Vice Mayor Aelion added that
no zoning items will ever be heard at a workshop. City Attorney Ottinot said attendance is
voluntary as Commissioner Scholl indicated. Mayor Edelcup said if you are going to have an
add-on. it should be out there far enough in advance so that the public can know that there is
an item for discussion as a courtesy to the public. If you bring it up at the workshop, he
thinks it is only fair that you defer it to the neat workshop to alloy everyone to have the
opportunity to be present. Again, it would not be fair if a Commissioner comes in to discuss
an entire different topic and it is an important topic.
Commissioner Scholl said there have been add-on items at every meeting. Former Vice
Mayor Lewis Thaler used to come in with a laundry list of items at the end of each meeting.
Mayor Edelcup noted that a lot of those werejust to check up with what was happening with
the City Manager. That is really what those items were meant to be. and unfortunately it
crept to the point where eye are here tonight trying to clarify it. What we are trying to do is to
take a step back and go back to what the original intent was.
8. PUBLIC HEARINGS (Other than Ordinances for Second Reading)
None
9.
