RFQ No. 19-11-01 Professional Engineering and Architectural Services for Pedestrian Bridge with Park Elements Across A1A at 174th St. - CCNA.
City of Sunny Isles Beach
|68
QUALIFICATION INFORMATION & ASSIGNED PERSONNEL
Located next to Miami International Airport, the Miami Intermodal Center is a massive ground transportation center. Bridge 10-A is a key piece of this
$1.4B project because it provides access to the 3.4-million sq. ft. Rental Car Center at the airport. FINLEY performed a VECP to the original $8M contract;
a dual-steel box girder superstructure was proposed for the access ramp to the rental car facility. The value engineering redesign incorporates a 5-span,
dual-steel box girder superstructure with a variable width and high degree of curvature. By converting the superstructure to steel and using only one
superstructure type, the redesign eliminated the need for falsework. This greatly simplified construction and minimized the impact on ongoing operations
and construction projects at the rental facility. The redesign increased the precast piles from 18 inches to 24 inches, but reduced the number of piles
from 163 to 60, and eliminated a span from the project.
Relevance: This project demonstrates FINLEY`s expertise and familiarity with steel boxes structural type and the ability in developing innovative
design solutions. The VECP allowed the Contractor to save $750,000 and time, while reducing the impact to the site and improving constructibility,
by minimizing the impact of ongoing operations and construction projects at the rental facility. Cost: $7.2M
F.
