<br />Sam has more than three decades of experience in the transportation field. His work includes bridge inspections, new bridge design, and
<br />the rehabilitation of large-scale, complex structures, urban interchanges and highway structures across North America. His work on New
<br />York City’s Manhattan Bridge spans a period of 25 years and includes five major rehabilitation contracts. Sam Summerville oversees the
<br />firm’s Transportation practice.

<br />Design of a new pedestrian bridge connecting Park Row to the existing Police Plaza Overpass to provide pedestrian access from
<br />Chatham Square to the Civic Center Region. The proposed pedestrian bridge is a cast-in-place concrete cantilever structure, which
<br />is designed to blend into the overall landscaping revitalization of Chatham Square. Cost: $8M. Project Manager.
<br />Engineering services for final design. This project included redecking of the following: five Brooklyn and two Manhattan steel approach
<br />structures with total length of 1,627 feet; 3,357 feet of ramp structures; and 1,300 feet of approach roadway supported on brick arches.
<br />The design encompasses the rehabilitation of the substructure for the approaches and ramp, lighting, striping, drainage, and
<br />maintenance and protection of traffic. Cost: $508M. Quality Control Manager.
<br />Structural repairs on the approach and main spans of the Manhattan Bridge. Includes removal and replacement
<br />of select ornamental cast iron fixtures on the bridge towers, including the tower globes. Other major rehabilitation includes repairs to
<br />lower gusset plates of main trusses, rehabilitation of the south upper roadway expansion joints, repairs to relief joints and replacement
<br />of the ornamental fascia railing along the south pedestrian walkway. Cost: $90M. Project Manager.
<br />Structural design services for the rehabilitation of the lower level along both approaches to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the Lily
<br />Pond Avenue Bridge. The work included the removal and replacement of elevated approach decks in Staten Island and Brooklyn and
<br />the removal and replacement of the Lily Pond Avenue Bridge deck, substructure repair, seismic evaluation and retrofit, strengthening of
<br />bridges to carry an HS-25 live load, and construction support services. Cost: $100M. Project Manager.
<br />Structural engineering for a pedestrian bridge spanning approximately 120 feet across Collins Avenue and providing access between
<br />the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center and the Atlantic Ocean. With a total length of approximately 200 feet, the bridge is
<br />supported on cantilevered arms extending from elevator cores on each side of Collins Avenue. Engineer of Record.
