East Side Coastal Resiliency Scoping
New York, New York
Client
New York City Department of
Design and Construction
How Sheen Pau
718-391-2093
Completion Date
Ongoing
Project Value
$1,500,000
Project Highlights
•Pedestrian bridges
•Rehabilitation design
•New bridge design
Hardesty & Hanover (H&H) is providing pre-scoping services for the East Side
Coastal Resiliency Project in Manhattan. The aim of this project is to protect
neighborhoods and infrastructure from future storm surge and rising sea levels, as
well as improve recreational opportunities and accessibility to the park and
waterfront.
Under this contract, H&H inspected seven existing pedestrian bridges to determine
their structural viability. Based on our findings, we are recommending rehabilitation
or replacement in conjunction with the other aspects of the Coastal Resiliency
program, including berms and other landscaping improvements.
We will be providing conceptual, preliminary and final design services for two new
bridges as well as ramp modifications to a third bridge in order to further enhance
pedestrian access to and from the waterfront on the Lower East Side. The bridge
locations will be determined based upon several factors in order to provide the
most benefit to the local communities.
F-17
