August 18, 2020
Professional Consulting Services
City of Sunny Isles Beach
RFQ No. 20-07-01
Page 21

Recently, Coastal Systems completed a Coastal Inundation and Economic Vulnerability
Assessment for the Village of Bal Harbour, in which our team utilized our coastal modeling
capabilities to provide business-centric recommendations for the Village. This assessment
was funded fully by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Resilient
Coastlines Program (RCP). Our team’s assessment analyzed the potential damages to
Village-wide infrastructure from sea level rise and storm surge, and projected the increasing
annual maintenance costs of the infrastructure to demonstrate the potential increase in
operational expenditures. In addition, our team analyzed the potential impacts to real estate
values from increased inundation events, and projected the potential impacts to the
municipal revenues. Our team reiterated the importance of planning and implanting resilient
design strategies today, in order to protect the municipality and its stakeholders.
