BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
Premiere Design Solutions, Inc. (PDS) serves as part of the Engineering and Surveying team for this project
which includes the design and construction administration of site grading work and new spine road throughout the
site. PDS tasks include the permitting assistance, engineering inspections and filed data collection, computer
drafting, digital terrain modeling (DTM), topographic survey, volume calculations and report preparation including
cross sections of crushed concrete stock piles and existing lake volumes.
PDS was contracted to determine the volume of crushed concrete material stockpiled at the Biscayne Landings
construction site and volume of lakes to be filled. PDS coordinated in-house survey crew to obtain horizontal and
vertical data of the location and elevation of the stockpiled material and lake soundings. With the information of
the points collected in the field utilizing cross sections no longer than 25’, information was migrated into AutoCAD
Civil 3D to generate a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) with the information collected from the field, generating
surfaces for the existing ground and for the surface area of each of the five stock pile mounds located at the
construction site. The DTM was used to determine the volume between the two surfaces, and to generate cross
sections of the stock piles at constant intervals. Volume calculation plans and reports were created with plan
view, cross sections and volume calculation data. Findings from our volume determination were used to
determine payment quantities and to determine production rate adequacy by the owner. It was found that the
Volume stock piled was considerably less than expected, so production of crushed concrete will have to increase
to reach projected targets. Our services saved allowed our client to perform this task on budget and on schedule.
This project was completed within the aggressive schedule required by the owner.
78
