BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost) <br /> <br />CPE is currently supporting the County’s Sector 5 Beach and Dune <br />Restoration project, the Sector 3 Beach and Dune Renourishment <br />project, and a request to designate Sector 4 as a Critically Eroded Area <br />(CEA). Sector 5 was historically managed through dune restoration so <br />this was the first beach nourishment project constructed along this <br />stretch of shoreline. Project construction for Sector 5 began on <br />November 4, 2019 and was deemed substantially complete on February <br />28, 2020, with construction observations and support performed by <br />members of CPE. CPE biologists also supported the immediate post- <br />construction biological monitoring, which was conducted in compliance <br />with the FDEP-approved Biological Monitoring Plan. <br />The initial Sector 3 Beach and Dune Restoration Project was <br />completed in three phases between 2010 and 2012 (R-20 to R-55) and <br />a dune repair project was constructed in 2015. CPE staff are currently <br />supporting the permitting effort for the next Sector 3 Beach and Dune <br />Renourishment Project and obtained the FDEP permit in July 2020. We are actively coordinating with USACE to finalize the <br />federal authorization. Additionally, CPE staff are supporting the pre-construction biological monitoring, which is in compliance <br />with the FDEP-approved Biological Monitoring Plan. The anticipated construction start date for the Sector 3 project with <br />tentative plans for 2020 construction. <br />CPE is supporting the County’s request to designate the shoreline between R-51.3 and R-70 as a CEA. The shorelines to <br />the north (Sector 3) and to the south (Sector 5) are already designated CEAs so this area serves as a peripheral segment <br />and may be considered necessary for continuity of management of the coastal system or for the design integrity of adjacent <br />beach management projects, as per Rule. The draft report is currently undergoing internal review before submittal to the <br />County, which, if approved, will qualify this segment of beach for State funding. <br /> <br />25.
