BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope,
size, and cost)

The site was located at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The study area included
Berth 9 and 10 of the Slip 1 Expansion. The purpose of the investigation was to determine
the depth to hard limestone and rippability of any hard limestone that was identified within
the area of a proposed excavation.

The geophysical investigation was performed using seismic refraction. The study results
indicated the presence of a thin, surficial layer of low p -wave velocity sediments (2500 to
3000 feet/second). Based on available boring logs, this surficial layer likely represents fill
material. The suspected fill was underlain by a low to mid velocity layer (3000 to 4000
feet/second) underlain by layers of increasing velocity. This intermediate layer likely
represents highly weathered limestone.

The seismic refraction results identified several broad regions of suspected hard, less -weathered limestone rock. These areas are
characterized by velocities ranging from 5900 to 7000 feet/second. In general, based on the seismic data, the suspected harder rock was
shallower in the eastern portion of the survey area. The limestone rock within these areas with velocities between 5900 to 70 00
feet/second were considered marginally rippable using Caterpillar D8 equipment.

Cost: $13,500 Size: 2 acres Project Director: Mr. Chris Taylor, PG
25.
