Key project improvements for the arrival of the NCL Encore to PortMiami Terminal C, required BEA Architects to design a new mooring bollards and apron improvements. BEA’s scope of work included the replacement of concourse egress stairs, audiovisual systems, mechanical systems, and lightning protection systems. Electrical improvements were also made, along with a new entrance for canopies. BEA also made general building envelope repairs, including sliding glass doors and water intrusion repairs.
BEA was capable of creating a design in an accelerated period of 7 months. In order to achieve it, the project was distributed amongst three general contractors. Three different bid packages were created by allocating general work for building interior and exterior improvements, waterside apron renovations, and A/C mechanical work servicing the entire three-story terminal.
The project has a narrow construction schedule spanning roughly 6 months. BEA collaborated with Port authorities, Port Maintenance, and Port Construction teams to simultaneously coordinate construction administration between all three General Contractors. BEA’s accelerated construction management also involved working closely with the Miami-Dade Building Department to bring much of the building’s Life Safety and Fire Protection up to code, and ensuring applicable permits for successful operations of the terminal on November 2019.
PPoorrttMMiiaammii CCrruuiissee TTeerrmmiinnaall BB && CC:: CCoonnvveerrssiioonn ttoo CC,, PPoorrttMMiiaammii,, FFLL
