`y�y OF SUS'= P'N <br />Palms shall be fertilized four times per year in the months of February, May, <br />August, and November. Fertilizer to be a granular "Palm Special" 8-2-12 product, <br />with at least 50% of the nitrogen and potassium in the slow-release form, <br />preferably sulfur -coated. Fertilizer mix shall also contain micronutrients, <br />specifically magnesium (kieserite, at least 3%), manganese sulfate (at least 1%), <br />chelated iron (Trachelene, at least 1%), and trace amounts (less than 1%) of <br />boron (boric acid), copper sulfate, and zinc sulfate. For Medjool and Sylvester Date <br />Palms, apply 6-7 lbs. per application and for Canary Island Date Palms apply 8-9 <br />lbs. per application. Fertilizer to be applied in small piles scattered 12" to 48" out <br />from trunk. Contractor shall follow manufacturer's recommendations for <br />fertilization rates and quantities for all other palms. <br />During the two summer applications (May and August) the 8-2-12 shall be mixed <br />with Sul -Po -Mag or K -Mag in a 1:1 ratio and applied together at the recommended <br />rates. <br />Apply Supplemental Sul-po-mag, K -Mag, manganese sulfate or other <br />micronutrients, as needed, to correct nutritional deficiencies. <br />Palms with reduced rooting space in small planters or beds, or those with extensive <br />ground cover beneath, shall have overall fertilizer rates proportionately reduced <br />by 1/3 to 1/2 and frequencies increased to 6 times per year (1 time each 2 months) <br />to prevent phytotoxicity. <br />Observation: It shall be the Contractor's obligation to perform regular monthly <br />inspections of all palms and report to the City any site condition which may be <br />detrimental to the health and vitality of the palms. The base of palm trunks, <br />canopy and palm leaf spears must be observed. Further, the Contractor is <br />responsible to harvest and submit appropriate frond, spear leaf or root tissue <br />samples from palms demonstrating unusual characteristics to an approved lab for <br />disease analysis report and forward results and recommendations to the City. <br />Palms that show signs of distress shall be immediately top drenched, if necessary. <br />Insect and disease activity will be treated on an as -needed basis upon inspection. <br />Required service calls and treatment between scheduled maintenance shall be at <br />Contractor's expense. These reports are to be written and should be received by <br />the City no later than ten days after each inspection. It is required that the Citv <br />be notified in advance of planned activities in order to allow them to witness and <br />record the applications. <br />1.8.6 INSECT AND DISEASE ACTIVITY <br />The Contractor shall control or eradicate infestations by chewing or sucking <br />insects, leaf miners, fire ants, whitefly and other pests and disease by spraying <br />affected grasses or plants with chemical sprays and combinations of sprays <br />suitable for that particular pest when the infestation or infection becomes evident <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach I ITB 20-08-01 Right -of -Ways and Facilities Landscape Maintenance Services <br />
