All operators <br />should do a walk around inspection of equipment (i.e. tires, fluid levels, damage, cutting edges, etc.) <br />at the beginning of each shift. Any findings should be turned into the supervisor so they can be <br />addressed as soon as possible. If the problem with the equipment is a safety issue or could cause <br />further damage, then the equipment shall be red -tagged until it is fixed. Seat belts are to be worn at <br />all times while operating any mobile equipment, company trucks, and while you are digging with <br />excavators or backhoes. <br />Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): <br />The employer is responsible for requiring the wearing of appropriate PPE in all operations where <br />there is an exposure to hazardous conditions. 29CFR 1926.28 <br />Clothing: <br />A minimum of short sleeve shirts, long pants, and leather work boots shall be worn on all jobs sites. <br />Clothing shall be in good condition and fit comfortably. Safety vests shall be worn 100% of the time <br />you are on a job site. Make sure vests are over the top layer of clothing, it does not go under a <br />jacket. R & D Electric,lnc does not allow safety colored shirts to be worn in place of a vest. <br />Eye Protection must be worn: 29CFR 1926.102 Employees shall be provided with eye and face <br />protection equipment when machines or operations present potential eye or face injury from <br />physical, chemical, or radiation agents. All eye and face protection equipment must meet the <br />requirements of A.N.S.I. <br />Foot Protection: <br />Employees shall wear leather work boots at all times. Whenever work is performed that may cause <br />crushing injury to foot (jack hammer, tamper, etc.) then employee shall have on either steel toed <br />boots or be wearing metacarpal covers over their work boots. Metacarpal covers shall be supplied <br />by the supervisor. <br />Hand Protection: 29CFR 1910.138(a) <br />Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' <br />hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances, severe <br />cuts or lacerations, severe abrasions, punctures, chemical burns, and harmful temperatures. <br />Head Protection: <br />R & D Electric,lnc has a 100% hard hat policy while anyone is on a job site. <br />Hearing Protection must be worn: 29CFR 1926.101 <br />Whenever it is not feasible to reduce the noise levels or duration of exposure ear protection shall be <br />provided. Ear plugs will be provided by either the supervisor or the safety officer. <br />Respiratory Protection <br />Depending on the type of work being done you may be required to wear an N-95 (dust mask) or <br />better respirator, (i.e.) saw cutting, jack hammering, or on dusty days or in areas of the job were <br />there is an unpreventable amount of dust being caused by equipment. <br />Safety Meetings <br />Every week there shall be a tailgate safety meeting held at the start of the shift on the first workday <br />of the week. All employees must be present and sign the attendance form. This is a good time to <br />discuss any of your own safety concerns or questions pertaining to the job. We promote employee <br />involvement with the safety of the job and any suggestions are more than welcome. Remember <br />there are no stupid questions when it comes to safety. <br />
