The new 3.71 mile Pensacola Bay Bridges replace <br />the structurally deficient bridge with two bridges having a total of six travel lanes. The bridge will be 16’ wide and allow for both cyclists and pedestrians to use the bridge. To increase <br />safety, pedestrians an cyclists will each have dedicated lanes separated by a raised barrier. Due to the height of the bridge, a ramp system is included to allow <br />for pedestrian, cyclists, and ADA access. Maxim provided conceptual design and visualizations for the bridge. This highly aesthetic bridge is <br />designed to blend into the natural surroundings. To minimize impacts to the river and surrounding area, this bridge is being constructed using a top-down <br />construction method. Because the Wekiva River is designated as an Outstanding Florida Water and a National Wild and Scenic River, the design-build team <br />must adhere to strict environmental requirements to protect the environment and wild life in this preserve. This includes limiting impacts to the river, trees <br />and approach sections and construction of wildlife bridges totaling 23,000 ft in length and maintaining recreational value of river during construction. Maxim <br />provided visualization for the various piers and created renderings and photosimulations of the bridge. Responsibilities included design of the Main Towers, Piers, abutments, and the various aesthetic <br />lighting on the project. He also produced all renderings for the project. The Kosciuszko Bridge is comprised of twin asymmetrical cable stayed structures with <br />opposing tower orientation. The new bridge will carry the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway over Newtown Creek between Brooklyn and Queens in New York City. <br />This project replaces the eastbound Kosciuszko Bridge.
