Transverse Structural System (Ribs)
The Bridge Park requires elevation differences for the upper and lower levels (See Bridge Park Concept
Typical Section). Transverse rib elements will be made continuous across the bridge section with
reinforcing steel passing through the spine webs. The ribs consist of cast-in-place concrete diaphragms
within and between FUBs. Precast concrete cantilever brackets will extend from the spine. The bottom
elevation of these transverse members will be one-foot four-inches above the bottom of the FUB to avoid
conflict with any prestressing strands. Ribs are redundant with multiple load paths provided by
continuous slabs and edge wall systems. The rib system creates a shallower and less intrusive bridge
appearance since the ribs are integral to the spine and not stacked on top of the beam elements.

72-inch FDOT Standard Florida U Beam (FUB 72)
H&H-Designed Johnson Street Bridge with Rib Elements Supporting Pedestrian Walkway
