Foundations
Foundation elements such as driven piles, augercast piles, and drilled shafts
will be compared in the BDR. One of the key considerations for the choice
of foundation element is the minimization of construction-related
vibrations. The project site is within 200 feet of the Chateau Beach
Residences, Double Tree Resort, and the Winston Tower Condominiums - all
of which are high value properties.
FDOT Standard Specifications 108 requires “qualified Specialty Engineer to
continuously monitor and record vibration levels. Upon either detecting
vibration levels reaching 0.5 inches per second or damage to the structure the
source of vibrations is to be stopped immediately.” Based on this
construction risk and our preliminary calculations, we propose to use 24-
inch augercast piles as the bridge foundation system.
Key Benefits of Augercast Pile foundations include:
• Key Benefits of Augercast Piles Include:
• Induce virtually no vibration or noise during
installation
• Proven track record supporting the tallest
buildings in the City of Sunny Isles Beach
• Requires inspection and vibration monitoring
for structures within a much smaller radius
relative to driven piles
o 60 ft for Augercast piles
o 250 ft minimum for driven piles
• More economical foundation system with
quicker installation relative to driven piles or
drilled shaft foundation systems
Augercast Pile
Installation
