PEDELTA
Seating Concept Design
Comfortable seating areas will be located underneath the roofed Amphitheater area. Seating is
unconventional low profile wooden extended benching, thus avoiding any visual obstruction of the ocean
Y
view. The seating area will be designed to accommodate persons permitting social distancing and excessive
proximity while providing reasonable privacy.
The benches concept design will be the result of a balanced combination between wooden seating surfaces
and low -profile vegetation areas.
Lighting (HLB Lighting Design sub -consultant)
Through the application of light, shadow, color and movement, a bridge's nighttime persona can be colorful
and dynamic, or subtle and quiet. It can become an ever-changing tourist destination, a community gathering
location or a quietly beautiful landmark within the neighborhood. It is through thoughtful discussion with the
community that the direction of the lighting is developed. Through an understanding of how a community sees
itself and the structure, the environmental considerations, and what about themselves they want to
communicate. The style of the bridge construction and its function will affect the choices placed under
consideration. In the case of the Sunny Isles Pedestrian Bridge, a successful lighting solution will engage the
steel and concrete structure of the bridge, highlighting the forms, curves, and angles as they support the
structure.
Some possible lighting methods that may be considered for the pedestrian bridge may include: tracing the
signature arch and amphitheater eyebrow with a direct view LED, use of floodlighting placed on the underside
of the bridge to indirectly highlight the interior of the structure, and the integration of soft or sparkly accent
lighting on the foliage and planters, steps or handrails, and amphitheater where people will closely interact
with the lighting. The possibilities for lighting a pedestrian bridge and representing a community are wide and
diverse, but in the end, the most important element is that the lighting of the bridge represents the community
in which it lives, and that the structure serves as a visually beautiful addition to that environment.
City of Sunny Isles Beach
Request for Qualifications No. 20-10-01
-10-
