;. C PEDELTA
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCING AND STRATEGY
Sequencing both Design and Construction is key element of the Pedelta Team's bridge concept. The
construction of the bridge will have its own challenges. The bridge has been conceived to minimize
interference with Collins Avenue, including sidewalks and access to Sansom Park.
Pedelta will support the selected contractor to identify all critical and/or long -lead components, such as
stainless-steel suppliers in the US and steel fabricators. Pedelta team has already identified two potential
stainless-steel fabricators: Offenhauser Company and Mariani Metal.
Most of the bridge components will be prefabricated at the shop and assembled at the site to accelerate
construction and ensure quality. The steel parts will be prefabricated in sections to facilitate transport to the
site (2 to 3 sections are anticipated for both the arch and the tied girder). Both the tied girder and arch will be
fabricated to the required camber to compensate for deflections due to all dead loads and match the design
profile elevation. Design drawings will define the relaxed camber diagram that will be used to cut the plates
to shape the segments. All Stainless -Steel visible surfaces will be bead blasted after pickling to get a consistent
uniform dull finish with a natural silver color and remove all scale and surface contamination that arose from
fabrication.
PHASE 1: The construction will start with utility lines relocations, protection of pedestrian traffic adjacent to
the site, and the bridge and elevators footings using cast -in-place shafts or auger cast piles to prevent noise
and disturbances to neighboring residential areas. Upon delivery of the sections to the site, the arch and tied -
girder sections will be erected in pre-set positions on temporary supports in the staging area at close intervals
without hangers. The main field splices will be designed for field welding for aesthetic reasons. After
completion of the arch and once it is connected to the tied girder, the arch will be released to take up its true
shape. Then, the hangers will be installed, and hand tightened, and the intermediate supports of the tied
girder removed to let the hangers take up their steel dead load tension.
PHASE 2: The bridge superstructure will be then put into the final position with cranes placed at both ends.
The installation of the bridge will be done at night to avoid/minimize roadway traffic disruption.
Lifting of a 170 ft long stainless-steel structure over railway.
