We use this data to review other cards used at the <br />same location during the same time period for possible abuse. Based on this information and <br />other variables, we determine which cards are most at risk for having white plastic created. <br />WEX also regularly communicates fraud patterns to our customers on an ad -hoc basis. <br />Finally, as a global payments innovator with more than 35 years in the market, WEX has developed <br />SaferPayments, a true 24/7 real-time system that prevents fraud by intercepting fraudulent <br />transactions "in-flight," generating case queues for subsequent investigation and, in specific <br />cases, triggering email alerts to customers. <br />SaferPayments is capable of preventing fraud at the holistic individual portfolio level, either <br />during the authorization process or at the payment gateway. SaferPayments can prevent first <br />party fraud and enforce business policies in one single instance for a true multi -channel/ multi - <br />portfolio application. SaferPayments can detect anything from an unauthorized transaction due to a lost or <br />stolen card, a compromised account (skimming, data breach, account takeover), or a potentially <br />illicit transaction (money laundering, drug smuggling, etc.). <br />SaferPayments can both detect and prevent fraud. SaferPayments is both versatile and easily <br />configurable, allowing WEX to maintain the fraud models internally, yet still provides robust fraud <br />management capabilities. Using advanced machine learning algorithms, SaferPayments <br />continuously "learns" as it aggregates transactions streaming through the solution to detect <br />trends at a portfolio, customer, channel, product, and transaction level. WEX controls the settings <br />that allows the WEX transaction authorization system to "pass", "pass, but flag for review", or <br />"deny" any transaction or group of transactions. <br />Most traditional "neural" or "anomaly detection" software solutions rely heavily on pre -coded <br />patterns of transactions or geolocation monitoring. They lack the ability to learn as they go and <br />monitor all levels of a card portfolio. They also will typically only "flag" a transaction for review, <br />but may not be able to actually stop a potentially fraudulent transaction from getting through the <br />authorization process. <br />SaferPayments "learns" as it streams transactions through its logic.
