<br />EXPERIENCE
<br />Lawrence (Larry) DeRose has more than 40 years of marine, structural, and civil
<br />engineering consulting experience in South Florida with an emphasis on port, marine,
<br />structural, land development, and terminal projects, from planning to construction
<br />certification. Larry’s professional background includes all levels of experience in his
<br />areas of specialization, ranging from the most basic to management of complex
<br />projects, and in a broad variety of studies involving the practical applications of
<br />hydrology, hydraulics, fluid mechanics, and structural mechanics. He is experienced in
<br />all aspects of planning and directing studies that involve large- and small-scale site
<br />development for government planning programs, including feasibility, construction,
<br />and development. Larry also has extensive experience in the regulatory aspects of land
<br />use, underground pipeline construction, and practical applications of structural
<br />materials. He is a qualified expert witness and has testified before a number of
<br />government agencies and in court on a broad range of matters related to his
<br />professional specialization. These projects have been conducted throughout the entire
<br />eastern half of the United States, as well as in the West Indies, Virgin Islands, and the
<br />Bahamas.
<br />REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE
<br />Coral Springs Public Safety Complex, Coral Springs, FL. Principal-in-charge/structural
<br />engineer for the reconfiguration and structural hardening of an existing 60,000-square-
<br />foot safety complex, located on a 7-acre site, that includes a new LEED-certified fire
<br />station building, police station, two-story addition, and parking area. Services for the
<br />included structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and life safety
<br />engineering, as well as energy modeling and commissioning. The new 12,500-square-
<br />foot fire station incorporates recycled materials throughout its build. It is the first
<br />LEED-certified building for the City of Coral Springs and serves as a showcase to
<br />educate residents of all ages about environmental sustainability. This facility includes a
<br />full commercial grade kitchen, dining room, entertainment room, gym, outdoor patio,
<br />and living quarters for the 24-hour station staff. This facility’s four bays include a
<br />decontamination room, cascade oxygen room, medical storage, and other emergency
<br />accommodation services. The addition of a two-story, 13,000-square-foot emergency
<br />management facility and fire department administration offices were designed with the
<br />latest energy-saving technologies and equipment. Scope of work included site
<br />improvements, an 8-inch water line extension, grading, an 8-inch gravity sewer, and a
<br />water management plan implementation to bring the site up to current surface water
<br />management standards and regulations.
<br />City of Weston, Emergency Operation Center, Weston, FL. Principal-in-
<br />charge/structural engineer for the design of a new three-story, 21,000-square-foot
<br />building that will accommodate 40 employees from fire code services, fire marshal,
<br />building and zoning, code enforcement and information technology departments.
<br />Services included structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and
<br />life safety engineering. Structural design elements include reinforced concrete masonry
<br />walls, pre-stressed concrete floor and roof joists, concrete floor and roof slabs. Building
<br />systems included plumbing, fire protection systems, HVAC with two air-cooled chillers,
<br />electrical systems, lightning protection system, technology systems (AV, security,
