The Peter P. Cobb Memorial bridge <br />carries the eastbound and westbound traffic of SR A1A over Indian River (Intracoastal Waterway). The channel is a tidally <br />controlled navigable waterway that runs north-south along this section of the coast and discharges to the Atlantic Ocean at <br />the Ft. Pierce Inlet, just south of the bridge. BMA's scope includes the installation of selected scour countermeasures <br />(Marine mattress, a rock-filled container constructed of high-strength geogrid) and Bank and Shore Riprap with filter fabric <br />and bedding stone to protect bent/piers 18W, 17W, 16W, 15W, 14W, 13W, 1W, AND 1E. The intent was to restore the <br />bridge to current practice counter measures since it had reach its maximum scout depth. The proposed repairs ensure a <br />minimum of 75-year design life on the protected piers/pile bents. Additionally, an observation Pier is provided along most of <br />the length of the existing bridge. Substantial environmental permitting, these include Consent of Use, Lease, or Easement <br />to use Sovereign Submerged Lands, Local Environmental Permits, FDEP NPDES General Permit, U.S. Coast Guard Bridge <br />Permit, SFWMD Right-of-Way Occupancy Permit, Section 10/Section 404 Department of the Army Permit, SFWMD <br />Environmental Resource Permit, and SFWMD Water Use Permit. <br /> <br />Size: from MP 17.127 to MP 17.713. <br />Construction cost: $8 M <br />Steven A.
