BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
Project Description: The State requires each municipality periodically review its comprehensive plan and determine if
amendments are needed to address changes in state requirements. On November 30, 2015, the Village informed the Department
of Economic Opportunity (DEO) that amendments to the Comprehensive Plan were necessary, specifically to address Chapter
163.3178, governing planning in coastal areas. This Chapter requires coastal communities to address development and
redevelopment principles, strategies, and engineering solutions that will remove real property from flood zone designations. To
comply with these new State regulations, The Village prepared new Goals 5-2 in the Coastal Management Element, as well as
Objectives and Policies to implement the Goal. The amendments were submitted for review in January 2017, and the Village
received a response letter in March of that year.
Shortly thereafter, the Village was hit by Hurricane Irma, interrupting many routine planning functions as the Village faced a
massive recovery effort. The Corradino Group was available to assist the Village during this recovery period, essentially getting
the Planning Department back on its feet. As part of that assistance, Corradino revised the Comprehensive Plan amendments to
address the three objections from the DEO review in March 2017.
To ensure the amendments would address the three objections, Corradino worked closely with planners at DEO as well as the
South Florida Regional Planning Council. This approach proved to be successful, as the adopted amendments were approved by
DEO with no further comments.
25. FIRMS FROM SECTION C INVOLVED WITH THIS PROJECT
a.
