<br />City of Sunny Isles Beach |Request for Proposal No. 22-04-01 37 <br /> <br />Field splicing is permitted for the following: <br /> Connection of cable reel sections. <br /> Connection of a mainline service distribution cable to a service drop cable or a breakout cable. <br /> Connection of service drop cable or breakout cable to an optical fiber pigtail at cabinets or the patch <br />panels. <br /> Connection of the backbone cable to an optical fiber pigtail at a hub patch panel. <br /> <br />The Contractor shall not exceed the maximum number of field splices permitted as shown in the plans. <br />Completed splices shall be placed in a splice tray. The splice tray shall then be placed in a water tight <br />splice enclosure. Field splices shall be conducted only at locations as shown in the plans as an approved <br />splice location. <br />All splicing equipment shall be in good working order, properly calibrated with calibration certificate <br />showing proof of calibration within the past 12 months. Craftmanship shall meet all industry standards <br />and safety regulations. Cable preparation, closure installation and splicing shall be accomplished in <br />accordance with accepted and approved industry standards. <br />All splices shall be protected with a thermal shrink sleeve. All fibers shall be labeled in the splice tray with <br />permanent vinyl markers. Pigtail ends shall also be labeled to identify the destination of the fiber. Pigtail <br />ends shall also be labeled to identify the destination of the fiber. <br />Upon completion of the splicing operation, all waste material shall be deposited in suitable containers, <br />removed from the job site and disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner. <br />4.4 Splice Cases <br />All splice cases used on this project shall be CommScope FOSC 450 Gel sealed fiber-optic splice closure or <br />approved equal. The following sizes shall be used: <br />FOSC 450A – Holds up to 96 fiber splices <br />FOSC 450B – Holds up to 144 fiber splices <br />FOSC 450C – Holds up to 192 fiber splices <br />FOSC 450D – Holds up to 576 fiber splices
