WaterlWaste water Utilities and Infrastructure
® Civil engineering forms the backbone of our experience and qualifications to serve as your consulting engineer. In Florida, more than
135 of Kimley- Horn's more than 430 - person staff are professionally registered civil engineers. At Kimley -Horn we have experienced
® professionals in water and wastewater system design and planning, utility engineering, site planning and master planning, and
® hydraulic modeling, among others. The team presented here has been responsible for the planning, design, start up, and expansion
® of some of the largest and longest operating membrane water treatment plants in the state. The firm's specific water main design
capabilities encompass all planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services required from the onset of a project through
® the approval process and bringing the system online. We have a large list of design projects, including water mains, water storage
® facilities, wells, raw water systems, pumping stations, and metering stations. Our team also has the expertise to provide you with
® the services related to wastewater infrastructure, including pump station design, force main systems, gravity systems, 1/1 studies,
and mapping of sewer systems on GIS. Our services routinely include designing under strict regulatory compliance conditions,
® coordinating with existing utilities to avoid underground conflicts, and integrating with existing on -site systems.
Kimley -Horn recently provided a force main route evaluation report, design services, and permitting for the installation of over 13,000
linear feet of new 16 -inch force main that included three horizontal directional drills (HDD) for the City of North Bay Village. The new
force main eliminated the need for North Bay Village to repump wastewater through the City of Miami Beach and provided a direct
connection to the Miami -Dade Water and Sewer Department wastewater system. Kimley -Horn provided design -build drawings,
hydraulic modeling, 'front end" documents, and associated opinions of probable construction costs. Kimley -Horn also obtained the
necessary environmental permits through the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Army Corp of Engineers
(ALOE) for the HDD's. The project was submitted to the State and approved for over 3.5 million dollars of grant funding through the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Kimley -Horn also provided construction documents and permitting documentation
for the rehabilitation of main wastewater pump stations for the City of North Bay Village and the Town of Bay Harbor Islands. Both
projects included analyzing the existing pumping and control equipment to develop a rehabilitation approach to increase system
efficiency, reduce system maintenance, and provide a reliable, redundant pump station to better serve the municipalities.
Permit Agency Coordination
We have also provided a hydraulic analysis of Martin County's entire
wastewater system with over 200 miles of gravity sewer, several thousand
manholes, and over 50 miles of force mains. This included analyzing
hydraulic capacity of the force main system, understanding the operation
of lift stations, and evaluating growth areas within the system. Project
components include establishing the current and future demands, lift
station run time hours, and pump curve data. Our depth of resources
means that you will benefit from experienced professionals who practice
civil engineering for municipalities every day. At Kimley -Horn, we have the
in -house capabilities to provide you with any civil engineering need you
may have.
The firm's engineers and planners maintain regular contact with virtually all key regulatory agencies and their decision makers. This
rich network of interpersonal relationships enables us to provide expeditious services relative to agency reviews and approvals. Our
staff not only understands agency procedures, but also their expectations, enabling us to minimize delays and rework of our clients'
submittals.
Our staff members make it a habit to stay well informed about the latest changes and status of rules affecting utility and
environmental permitting and regulation. They are well equipped to assist you with permitting and mitigation program development
processes.
® Our firm has successfully represented clients before numerous federal, state, and local agencies including regional planning councils;
® the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; the Florida Department of Environmental Protection; water management districts; Miami -Dade
County Permitting, Environmental, and Regulatory Affairs (PERA); Miami -Dade County Water and Sewer Department; and Miami-
Dade County Public Works. We are experienced in preparing permit applications for these agencies, know what is required to gain
® approval, and excel in providing the high level of coordination that facilitates the permitting process.
