The project consists of 40- <br />story twin hotel towers, eight -story convention center, an <br />intracoastal retail village, garage, mechanical plant and <br />pedestrian bridge. <br />Extensive subsurface investigations were performed to <br />delineate the layers of compressible organic silts, peats and <br />soft rock below the project site. These subsurface conditions, <br />together with the fast track schedule of the project, <br />complicated design and installation of foundation systems <br />and required specialized site preparation techniques. <br />Augercast pile foundation recommendations were developed <br />to support the low -rise, mid -rise, and high -rise structures. <br />Over 3,000 piles were installed to support these structures. <br />Langan provided foundation design, quality control inspection <br />of foundation systems and foundation monitoring services. <br />Additionally, Langan provided seawall foundation <br />recommendations and inspection services, earthwork, site <br />preparation recommendations and inspection services, <br />innovative deep stormwater exfiltration trench evaluation and <br />design, and specialized lightweight filling techniques. The use <br />of a geofoam lightweight fill allowed significant raising of <br />grades on top of existing settlement- sensitive utilities and <br />adjacent to an on -grade condominium slab. <br />24 <br />
