11 1Q .o r <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />18070 Collins Avenue <br />Sunny Isles Beach, Florida 33160 <br />(305) 947-0606 City Hall <br />(305) 949-3113 Fax <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners <br />VIA: Stan Morris, City Manager. <br />FROM: Dylan Battles, Building Official <br />DATE: June 17, 2025 <br />RE: Amendments to Chapter 161 of the City's Code of Ordinances a€" Flood <br />Damage Prevention <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of this ordinance. <br />REASONS: <br />The City of Sunny Isles Beach participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and its <br />Community Rating System (CRS), a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and promotes <br />community floodplain management practices that exceed the NFIP's minimum requirements. The City <br />has achieved a CRS Class 8 rating, which allows residents who purchase NFIP flood insurance policies to <br />receive premium discounts. <br />In 2020, the NFIP's CRS program implemented new minimum prerequisites for communities to qualify <br />for or maintain a Class 8 or better rating. To comply with these updated requirements and maintain the <br />City's current CRS rating, manufactured homes installed or replaced within Special Flood Hazard Areas <br />must now be elevated to at least one foot above the base flood elevation (BFE). This change <br />necessitates an amendment to the City's existing floodplain management regulations. <br />ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: <br />While there are currently no residential manufactured homes within the City of Sunny Isles Beach, it is <br />important to note that temporary structures commonly used in development projects, such as sales <br />Item Number: 8.A <br />101 <br />
