<br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />NE 174th Street Roadway Improvements <br />329301 - 4 Transplanting <br /> <br /> <br />1. Inject the fertilizer mixture within 24 hours after crown pruning, and a minimum of 14 <br />days prior to root pruning. <br />2. Inject the deep root fertilizer mixture at a rate of 50 gallons of mixture per 1,000 <br />3. Water trees every other day for 14 days following crown pruning and until transplanting. <br />Form an earth berm 6" high outside the proposed root ball prior to watering. Apply a <br />minimum of 4" of water within the berm at each watering. Water application should <br />saturate the root ball. <br /> <br />G. Crown Pruning: <br /> <br />1. Trim trees to be transplanted by thinning the crown only, and not by reducing crown <br />dimensions. Trim to conform to NAA standards, including removal of dead wood. <br />Repair injuries to trees including cavities and machinery marks. <br />2. Remove seedpods from Sabal Palms, and all but 10 youngest fronds. Trim boots to a <br />clean, regular pattern. Tie several fronds in upright position to unopened center fronds. <br />3. All crown pruning to be completed a minimum of 14 days prior to root pruning. <br />4. Grind trimmings from tree and palm pruning and deposit on site where directed by <br />Architect. <br /> <br />H. Root Pruning: <br /> <br />1. Minimum root ball diameter for broadleaf trees: <br /> Caliper Ball Diameter <br /> 3-4" 36" <br /> 4-5" 48" <br /> 5-6" 56" <br /> 6-8" 64" <br /> 8-10" 72" <br /> 10-12" 84" <br /> 12-15" 90" <br /> 16-20" 96" <br /> Caliper is measured 12 inches above the ground. <br />2. Minimum ball depth for broadleaf trees: <br /> Ball diameter Minimum depth <br /> 36-48" 60% of dia. <br /> 48" and up 35" minimum <br />3. Minimum root ball size for palms: <br /> Sabal palm: 36" diameter <br />4. Root prune trees by digging a square trench equal distance from the trunk on 4 sides, 24” <br />deep by 6” wide, either by hand. Leave roots with a smooth, clean cut without tears or <br />splits. <br />5. Back fill root pruning trenches with the planting soil mix specified in section 329300- <br />Landscape and flood to remove air pockets. <br />6. Construct a 6" berm, 12" outside the root-pruning trench using excavated soil. <br />7. Spread mulch 3 inches thick within the bermed area. <br /> <br /> <br />3.03 TRANSPLANTING: <br /> <br />A.
