<br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />NE 174th Street Roadway Improvements <br />329301 - 5 Transplanting <br /> <br /> <br />1. Inject deep-root fertilizer mixture 14 days prior to transplanting. Apply at a rate of 50 <br />gallons of mixture per 1,000 s.f. of canopy into root zones of trees and palms. <br />2. Soak tree balls to the full depth daily for seven consecutive days prior to transplanting. <br />3. Locate proposed position and elevation of trees for verification by Architect. <br />4. Select a moving route where overhead and underground utilities, existing or proposed, do <br />not conflict with the transplanting process. <br />5. Backfill pits resulting from removal of trees and palms with clean topsoil and bring <br />grade flush with surrounding grade. Repair erosion in the reclaimed area where plants <br />have been dug. <br /> <br />B. Digging and Moving: <br /> <br />1. Notify the Architect 24 hours in advance of each relocation to allow for observation of <br />procedures. <br />2. Determine line of previous root pruning and excavate 12" outside the root mass to leave <br />root pruning and new root growth undisturbed. <br />3. Dig pits a minimum of 42" deep with vertical sides and flat bottom. <br />4. Handle trees to avoid damage to bark and limbs. Attach support straps, cables, or chains <br />at multiple points for weight distribution. Tree trunks may not be drilled and. <br />5. Do not force tree from ground prior to undercutting root balls. Determine final ball depth <br />upon assessing conditions at time of trenching. Notify Architect if ball depth varies from <br />specified depth. <br />6. Sabal palms may be relocated by means of tree spade at the discretion of the Contractor. <br />Otherwise, lift similarly to canopy trees. <br /> <br />C. Planting and backfilling: <br />Apply all requirements of section 329300 – Landscape which apply. <br /> <br />D. STAKING AND GUYING: In accordance with details & section 2.06 <br /> <br />E. WATERING: <br /> <br />1. Initial Watering: Initially, water the plant material to develop uniform coverage and deep- <br />water penetration of at least twelve inches on all sides of the plant ball. Proper watering <br />shall aid in removing air pockets that occur in the planting operation. Avoid erosion, <br />puddling, and washing soil away from plant roots. <br />2. Hand Watering: Provide hand watering of plant material for a period of 30 days subject <br />to weather conditions, to maintain healthy growing conditions until final acceptance. <br />This shall be in addition to water received from irrigation system, if any. <br />3. Tree wells maybe constructed to effectively control and contain water until plants are <br />established. <br /> <br />F. WEEDING: <br /> <br />1. In the event that weeds or other undesirable vegetation becomes prevalent to such an <br />extent that they threaten plant material, they shall be removed as directed by the Design <br />Consultant. <br />2. If necessary, the plant material and/or planting soil shall be replaced as needed to <br />eliminate weeds at the expense of the Subcontractor. <br /> <br />3.04 CLEANING AND PROTECTION:
