Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting November 20.2014 City of Sunny Isles Beach.Florida
Commissioner Levin said the original Agreement with Mr. Katz was that he would pay a
total sum of $525,000. $75,000 a year for seven years. According to what the Mayor's
understanding of the Agreement is, it doesn't say whether it is in perpetuity, or whether it is
supposed to stop. How is this $525,000 with the naming rights any different than any of the
other naming rights we have given in the City for less money like Dezer? She understands
those two,are there any others? Mayor Edelcup noted the naming rights when we bought the
parks from Koffowsky and Steiger where an area of each of those parks named for their
family, and that was part of the purchase price. Other than that, and other than streets that
have been named or for other Commissioners. Commissioner Levin said then that they don't
make any payments in perpetuity, and Mayor Edelcup said no. Commissioner Levin said the
money is used for operating costs, and Mayor Edelcup said it goes in the General Fund.
Vice Mayor Aelion moved and Commissioner Levin seconded a motion to approve the
resolution. Resolution No. 2014-2346 was adopted by a roll call vote of 3-2
Commissioner Gatto and Commissioner Scholl againstj in favor.
Vote: Commissioner Gatto no
Commissioner Levin yes
Commissioner Scholl no
Vice Mayor Aelion yes
Mayor Edelcup yes
[City Clerk's Note: Item 6A was heard after Item 1OQ.J
11. MOTIONS
None
12. DISCUSSION ITEMS
I2A. Appointment of Dana Goldman. Esq. to Temporarily Fill Vacant Commissioner Seat 3.
Action: Mayor Edelcup said due to the fact that Commissioner Scholl is resigning his seat
effective November 21, 2014, his seat will be a vacant seat that will need to be filled for its
duration. There is a Special Election scheduled on February 17, 2015 for that but in the
interim on December 2, 2014 he will be recommending to the Commission that Dana
Goldman, who is here in the audience and is Chairperson of our City Advisory Committee,
should fill that vacancy until the Election. She has an opportunity to run in that Election
along with anyone else who lives in that same district but until the Election, she will fill that
vacancy. He just wanted to bring that to everyone's attention and look forward to having
Dana inducted on December 2 as well.
12B. Comments by Mayor Norman S. Edelcup.
Action: Mayor Edelcup said today marks another milestone in the history of Sunny Isles
Beach, it is the first retirement of a Mayor from office. Naturally it is with mixed emotions
32
