PAGE 6 | RFQ 26-07-01; CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING CONSULTING SERVICES <br />(CCNA) <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (MQRs) <br />REHABILITATION AND <br />UPGRADE OF <br />PS 0300 <br />M-D WASD, Miami-Dade County, FL <br />This project consisted of the rehabilitation and upgrade of Pump Station 0300, <br />an important booster facility that suffered a catastrophic disaster when a dresser <br />coupling failed and flooded the station. CHA was selected to create a BODR and design <br />the upgrade of the pump station, which includes five 600-HP pumps, operating in a <br />flow range of 7,000 to 31,000 gpm, which collect sewage from a 72-inch influent pipe <br />and discharge into a common header that joins a 48-inch force main. CHA performed <br />several analyses of the existing conditions, including hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, <br />structural, and architectural, to determine the various possibilities and implement the <br />most practical and cost-effective solution. <br />This pump station included not just an in-depth, multi-disciplinary analysis but was <br />designed in close coordination with both Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s <br />Planning and Operations department to ensure that all proposed upgrades/additions <br />were practical and feasible from a construction and operation point of view. An <br />example of this included the coordination for an annex building added to house the <br />electrical and control equipment, which was tailored specifically to the MDWASD’s <br />Operations department’s preferences. <br />CHA assessed a great deal of existing information, including hydrographs, historical <br />hydraulic data, piping configurations, etc., to determine the best hydraulic solution. <br />It was determined that through the use of different-sized pumps and a combination <br />of operating parameters which would be implemented through automatization, not <br />only would the efficiency of the pump station be increased, but the possibility of <br />another accident due to surges in water pressure and improper operation would be <br />drastically reduced. <br />Dates <br />2019 - Ongoing <br />Cost <br />CHA Fee: <br />$750,000 <br />Construction: <br />~$45M <br />Reference <br />M-D WASD <br />Juan A.
