information collected. This information was used to design the <br />subsurface investigation program for the tunnels and shafts <br />which consisted of over 10,000 feet of soil borings. Drilling <br />and sampling methods included; continuous SPT, Shelby <br />tubes, Pitcher Sampling, PMT, and sonic drilling. Electronic <br />field forms were created to collect soil boring information, gas <br />data, drilling quantities, and daily field reports and move this <br />data in near real-time to a cloud-based enterprise database. <br />Lab testing included; index testing, strength testing with ring <br />shear, direct shear, and triaxial, permeability, consolidation, <br />corrosivity, and soil abrasivity. Lab data was also stored in the <br />cloud-based database. Data visualization tools were then built <br />in multiple software systems to allow for statistical analyses <br />to be performed to develop baseline contractual properties. <br />Data was summarized in Geotechnical and Environmental <br />Data Reports (GDR) and (EDR) and was used as the basis for <br />developing the Geotechnical Baseline Report (GBR). Technical <br />specifications were developed to define the scope of the <br />design/build project. <br />Fort McNair Seawall Repair Design, DSS Services, Inc., <br />Washington, DC: Performed a subsurface investigation to <br />assess the subsurface information in the area where a portion <br />of the seawall along the Washington Channel was failing. The <br />seawall ultimately failed and was removed from the area. <br />GEI then performed the design of timber piles to support the <br />replacement stacked stone block gravity retaining wall. <br />Zahnisers Marina Improvements, Safe Harbor Marina, <br />Solomon’s Island, MD: Managed our marine design team <br />to perform a wind and wave study of the proposed marina <br />modifications to determine dock pile layout and loading. <br />Developed marina management recommendations for storm <br />events. Performed lateral pile design for the dock piles based <br />on the storm loading conditions. <br />DC Clean Rivers Project Division D – JBAB Overflow and <br />Diversion Structures, Washington, DC: Design reviewer <br />for the design of a sheetpile wall system that served as the <br />temporary support of excavation system for near surface <br />structures surrounding the previously constructed JBAB Drop <br />Shaft. These structures consisted of a diversion structure over <br />the Potomac Outfall Sewer, and an overflow structure and an <br />odor control chamber for the JBAB Drop Shaft. Supported the <br />construction of the shoring system through responding to RFIs <br />and developing field design changes. <br />Oronoco Bay Remedial Design, City of Alexandria, VA: <br />Managed this sediment dredging and capping project under <br />direct contract with the City of Alexandria (City). Our team <br />assessed existing sediment investigation information, <br />collected new sediment samples, and provided an alternative <br />dredging and capping approach of contaminated alluvial river <br />sediments at an outfall structure in the Potomac River. Our <br />revised design model assessing the contaminant transport <br />allowed for a revised design which greatly simplified the <br />dredging and capping while meeting the required remediation <br />of the contaminants. <br />Windmill Hill Living Shoreline, City of Alexandria, VA: <br />Managed our role in assessing the geotechnical aspects of a <br />living shoreline construction project. We designed a ground <br />improvement system using wick drains and controlled filling <br />to mitigate settlement and potential for mud waves during <br />construction. We also performed settlement monitoring <br />during construction to ensure that settlement was stabilized to <br />allow for the newly planted shoreline vegetation to remain in <br />the proper tidal range. <br />Long Bridge Project, Alexandria, VA and Washington, <br />DC: The Long Bridge Project will construct a new, two- <br />track railroad bridge crossing the Potomac River next to the <br />existing Long Bridge, creating a four-track corridor. A new <br />bike-pedestrian bridge will also be constructed as part of the <br />mitigation to the National Park Service (NPS) parkland and <br />will span the Potomac River and George Washington Memorial <br />Parkway, connecting Long Bridge Park directly to East and <br />West Potomac Parks. Provided technical peer review on behalf <br />of CSX for both the north and south packages of retaining <br />wall and foundation design packages to ensure compliance <br />with AASHTO and AREMA codes and the project technical <br />requirements. <br />GEI Consultants | City of Sunny Isles Beach | RFQ 26-07-01 102 <br />Paul D.
